Auwal Shanono, who died in service as the President of the Association, 2010/2011. Auwal Shanono (1984 - 2011) was the president of the Nigerian Medical Students' Association, Oct, 2010 - June, 2011. Auwal Shanono was killed in active service by a warring faction af the NURTW on the 5th of June 2011 while returning from a rally on the prevention of maternal mortality in Obafemi Awalowo University, Ife, Osun State. Until his death, he was an exceptional leader who was passionate and dedicated to the growth and development of NiMSA and the Nation at large. To keep his memory alive and immortalize his name, the Auwal Shanono foundation was formed. Mission Statement
The Auwal Shanono Foundation seeks to empower and cater for the welfare of Nigerian Medical students and the large population of those unable to access quality healthcare services in Nigeria. Using the Sustainable Development Goals 2 and 3 as a guiding torch, the Auwal Shanono Foundation aims to not only contribute its quota to solving the problems of hunger and poor access to health care; but to educate the Nigerian populace while at it.
