Being kind and compassionate to ourselves is shown to improve our mental health and emotional wellbeing and helps us develop resilience. Positive self-talk and coping statements are a strategy we can all use to help us cope in difficult situations and improve how we are feeling, especially during periods of change like moving to secondary school or changing year groups.

Try saying these coping statements out loud when you are next feeling worried, fearful or anxious and remember, no feeling is permanent and it’s important to be kind to ourselves ❤

Jo Holmes, our Children, Young People and Families Lead, has said counselling should be built into the MHST plans, and that our members are ready to step into paid therapy roles.

We’re calling for school MHSTs to have a clear referral pathway to funded counselling.
