Who has fun plans this weekend? 🎆🎉🇺🇸 check out these tips on how to handle the holiday weekend festivities with your kids!
One of the biggest summer holidays is just a few days away. Whether you’re a new parent or a seasoned pro, you may be looking for a few tips when it comes to surviving the holiday and getting some sleep!
🎇 If your baby or kiddo is flexible, just try to ensure you prioritize keeping them well rested (even if the schedule is a bit different for a day or two). Be sure you’re getting in naps and paying attention to hour child’s mood to avoid the overtired zone. Get back on track when the holiday is over!
🎇 If your baby or kiddo is less flexible, schedule events around your child’s naps and bedtime. This may mean skipping a few events here and there but if it means a happy child, it means a much better holiday for all!
🎇 Host! Hosting allows you to keep your baby or child in her own environment. With the use of white noise, your child can enjoy restful sleep even with a house full of people. And you can keep your child on schedule!
🎇 If there’s no way around your plans and you can’t prioritize sleep as you would like, know that you may have a day or two that isn’t so fun. Return to your daily schedule as soon as you return home or are able. Realize that it may take your child a week or so to get back on track.
🎇 If your neighborhood is extra noisy, consider beefing up the white noise - add some to the hallways and perhaps an extra near the window.
If you’re feeling discouraged about rearranging your life based on your child’s schedule, remember that this too shall pass. Your child will grow and these issues are fleeting.
The best thing to do is to do your best. Know that if you’ve already laid a foundation for a healthy sleep schedule your child should return back to normal pretty quickly. Happy 4th!

Anyone struggling with a toddler who is fighting their nap? 🙋🏼♀️ It can be frustrating when skipped naps happen, especially for parents - mama needs a break! But it can be normal for this to happen on occasion.
This one is hitting close to home for me right now because my daughter has been protesting her naptime recently. What happened to the kid who used to fall asleep in 5 minutes like clockwork? 🤷🏼♀️
Assuming that your child’s schedule is appropriate, and nothing else has changed, this is often associated with something developmental. There are SO many developments throughout infancy and toddlerhood - and it’s very common for these mental, physical, and social developments to cause sleep changes and disruptions.
The important thing to know is that this doesn’t necessarily mean it’s time to drop the nap! Many people will go through a phase of fighting naps and assume the nap needs to be dropped - but we don’t want to rush this. In most cases, things will fall right back into place after some time, so keep offering that nap!
Here’s a couple of things to keep in mind if you’re struggling with skipped naps:
😴 Stick with your routine as much as possible - keep offering the nap at their normal time, and continue to go through your pre-sleep routine.
😴 Keep your chid in their sleep space long enough to give them a chance to fall asleep - don’t give up on the nap too early! Some kids may need more time than others to settle down for sleep. When it’s clear that the nap isn’t happening, get them up and carry on with your day as normal.
😴 Keep expectations LOW for the afternoon. This can be more challenging if you have plans that you need to stick to, but just anticipate that they will get tired faster/easier than normal.
😴 Move bedtime up earlier. This will help prevent them from getting overtired and will allow them to make up for the sleep they lost during the day.
Skipped naps are no fun, but it happens, and tomorrow is a new day. And early bedtime is my favorite silver lining 🙌🏻 put your feet up and enjoy some extra kid-free time at night!

Managing our expectations as parents can be one of the biggest pieces to working on sleep! As much as we may want to have our children on a schedule that is ideal for us - it’s important to make sure it’s realistic, age appropriate, and fits the needs of each individual child.
This is where working with a sleep coach comes helps so much! We can work together to find the right schedule for your child 😴

How to manage your expectations while sleep training!⠀
Sleep training can be hard (not as hard as those sleepless nights, though!) and doing it without support can almost always end in failure and frustration. It can be overwhelming if you are going into the process with unrealistic goals and expectations.⠀
That’s why when you work with your very own Rest Coach at you’ll not only have a wealth of sleep knowledge and support at your fingertips, but, someone who can help you set obtainable goals and have sensible expectations throughout the entire process!⠀
Most of the time our clients come to us with an arbitrary number of hours they would like their child to sleep at night or a concrete number of naps. Then, when their child struggles with early morning wakes or short naps, they assume that sleep training is not working for them. This is where your Rest Coach comes in to support you and remind you of the progress you have made so far! It may be that your child is now falling asleep independently, sleeping more uninterrupted hours at night, or has conquered one solid daytime nap.⠀
Having appropriate and realistic expectations is the key to being successful and satisfied with your sleep training process.

As the weather is warming up and we’re coming into those hot summer months, it’s time to rethink what our kids are wearing to bed ☀️😴
Check out this helpful graphic from to use as a guide for dressing your babies at nighttime.

It’s warming up as we get closer to summer. 😎 Time to check that you are dressing your little one appropriately.
This chart can be used as a guide on how to dress your little one and is based on info from and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
🌞 Dress your child in no more than one extra layer than you would wear. We don’t want your baby to get too hot and overheating. This helps reduce the risks of SIDS in infants.
🌞 With the weather getting warmer consider switching to a lightweight fabric for pajamas, swaddles, wearable blankets, or blankets. If your baby is no longer in a swaddle, consider using wearable blanket. It’s a great sleep cue and a safe alternative to blankets (which should not be used in infancy).
🌞 Avoid dressing your little one in fleece over fleece due to lack of breathability and increasing the risk of overheating. Also, avoid covering your baby’s head with any materials or fabrics. No hats!
🌞 Keep the bedrooms at 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit (20-22 degrees Celsius) to promote sleep and avoid overheating. We sleep best in cooler temperatures. If your temperature in your home changes throughout the day, dress your little one differently for nap than nighttime.
🌞 Lastly, if you are uncertain what your child should be wearing and if they are too hot or too cold, feel your child’s back, stomach, and chest. Your child should be warm and dry, not sweaty or cold.
Now bring on summer!

Did you check in the pantry…2nd shelf…behind the box of cheerios? I thought I saw your elephant there…
☝🏻 Real things I never thought I’d say as a parent🤦🏼♀️
If Mom can’t find it, it’s long gone! 🤣

Here’s another sleep fact coming at you this Friday morning - it’s never too early to start a bedtime routine with your baby! 👶🏼
It might seem silly to go through the motions of a routine with a newborn, but even young babies thrive off of some sort of routine.
Your routine doesn’t have to involve reading stories or saying goodnight to stuffed animals like it might with an older baby or toddler - it can be something simple like singing the same song before they fall asleep every night, or always doing things in the same order (sleep sack, then lights out, then rocking & singing).
It’s less about what the routine includes, and more about the consistency of it. Having a consistent routine preps your baby for sleep, helps them understand what to expect, and helps set them up for healthier sleep habits even at a very young age.
No need to wait until your baby is on a more solid schedule to add in a pre-sleep routine, it is beneficial at any age!
Happy Friday everyone! 🥰

NEVER! 🤣 just kidding…sort of.
It may seem like sleep sacks are only for young babies, but there are many benefits to keeping your baby in a sleep sack, even through toddlerhood. My daughter is 2 and she still wears a sleep sack - we just upgraded her to the “big kid” version!
As long as your baby/toddler will tolerate it and finds comfort in the sleep sack, there’s no need to get rid of it before they’re in a toddler bed and can safely/efficiently use blankets when they sleep.
Some of the benefits to continued use of a sleep sack are:
😴 Routine & Social Cue
Babies and children thrive off of their routine! Using a sleep sack and incorporating this into your child’s pre-bedtime routine is a great social cue to help them understand that sleep is coming, and helps their bodies wind down and prepare for sleep.
😴 Keeps Baby Warm
For safety reasons, we don’t want to put any loose blankets in the crib for the first couple of years - and even through toddlerhood it can be hard for wiggly little ones to keep a blanket on! A sleep sack is a great way to give them an extra layer of warmth at night without a blanket.
😴 Helps Prevent Climbing
When toddlers become more mobile, they may be inclined to practice some new climbing skills out on their crib. This is obviously a safety hazard and we want to try to avoid this situation. A sleep sack is a great way to keep their legs contained and make it more difficult to climb out of the crib.
So hold on to those sleep sacks, buy the bigger/toddler sleep sacks if needed, and don’t ditch it until you have to!

This week is Maternal Mental Health Week, and the whole month of May is a time to honor the importance of prioritizing mental health for moms 🤱🏼
So many moms are affected by postpartum mood disorders, and everyone has a very different postpartum journey. The birth of a new baby brings so many changes - these are life-altering adjustments along with countless emotions, and managing this on your own (especially when dealing with a postpartum mood disorder) feels like an impossible task. Yet, as moms we often feel like we have to do it all.
One of the most important things I’ve learned as a mom/sleep coach/friend is to always make sure to ask a new mom how she is doing. How is she feeling, how is she coping?
In the world of having a new baby, it’s so easy for a mom’s needs to get brushed aside and for her mental health concerns to go unaddressed. Giving her that opportunity to speak up, showing her that you are concerned for her personal well being, and giving her an outlet to reflect on how she’s feeling can make all the difference.
To all the moms (new or seasoned), you are warriors. Your mental health matters, and even more than that...YOU matter. ❤️

So you have blackout curtains in your child’s room, but is it really dark enough?
We don’t want the room to be dark-ish, we want it DARK. Even tiny bits of light coming in can affect sleep for our kiddos. The eye’s exposure to light is directly related to the body’s production of melatonin, so when light comes in through their windows, it can cause a decrease in melatonin production and signal them to wake up.
This is especially important now that the sun is coming up earlier in the mornings - it can be a big factor in those early wakeups! ☀️
Sometimes there’s sneaky light that peeks around the edges, underneath, or even through the curtains making the room much brighter than it should be for sleep. So do a double-check in your child’s room to see if you can find any sneaky light.
You can purchase a blackout shade that attaches to the window itself to eliminate all light, or you can get crafty and hang towels or place tape over any little gaps that may form.
It doesn’t have to be pretty - it just has to be dark!

Hi tired parents! Thanks for visiting this page and taking the time to get to know me. I’m Sarah - I am a wife, mama of two little ones, and I love supporting tired families who are struggling with sleep!
I have been there - I have been that struggling mom, running on fumes, and not knowing if we would ever get a good night's sleep again. After my first child was born we were facing major struggles with sleep, and things weren't naturally getting easier as many other parents had assured me it would. I was overwhelmed, mentally drained, and frustrated, but most of all I was just so tired! In hindsight, I know that seeking help and hiring a sleep consultant was the single most important thing I could have done. It was truly life-changing!
After going through this experience, and learning what a powerful impact sleep consulting had on my own family, I knew I wanted to harness this new passion and help others. I became certified as a pediatric sleep consultant and now I'm thrilled to be able to help other families in need!
One important thing I've come to realize is that there is no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to sleep. Every child is so different! I believe in providing personalized guidance, catered to each individual child and each family's specific set of needs. It’s always possible to work on getting more rest, and I’m so happy to be supporting families on their journey to better sleep.
If you're struggling with sleep, please reach out - I’ve been where you are, and the first step to better sleep is just asking for help. There is hope for more sleep in your future, I promise!
