Smoothies: good and bad for the body
The first information about smoothies dates back to the last century, or the early 1970s. It was then that the first of its kind «healthy cafe» appeared in the United States, in which cocktails were made from fruit and berries - smoothies.
A smoothie is a homogeneous, thick drink made of fresh or fresh ice-cream berries, fruits or vegetables shredded to a purple state in a blender; The addition of nuts, milk or cereals is also not excluded.
A smoothie, whose usefulness has been proven many times, is a full-fledged dish that is now known to all and that provides the body with useful elements and vitamins. All food and healthy lifestyles actively include these useful cocktails in their diets.
In classical smoothie technology, the cocktail consists of berries or fruits, and milk or water is added to make the cocktail a little less thick. Modern recipes can include other ingredients such as vegetables, nuts, cereals, green, yogurt, syrup, and so on.
Especially popular is smoothies in summer, when berries and fruits are available in large numbers, but in winter smoothies are even more useful, because it is during winter that vitamins are lacking, and such cocktails are a treasure of useful substances.
Smoothies: good and bad for the body
Saturated smoothies can be an excellent substitute for the usual juices. They are thicker, the whole fruit is used for cooking, hence the content of useful substances is much higher. Such cocktails can be used as an alternative to running snacks such as candy or sandwiches.
Let’s take a closer look at the quality of the beverage and determine whether a smoothie is good or bad for the body.
Use of smoothies
The main advantages of a smoothie, or several reasons why it is desirable to include this drink in your daily diet:
• One portion of smoothie makes up for the daily intake of vitamins in the body. It has been scientifically proven that the daily consumption of fruits and vegetables is beneficial for health. But what if there’s no way to bring these foods as a snack? In this case you can combine them in a cocktail and enjoy the pleasant taste of smoothie.
• Quick and just cook. It is not difficult to make a vitamin cocktail: all you have to do is choose the ingredients you want, put them in a blender bowl and mix them into a uniform condition.
• Smoothies are the perfect substitute for sweets. If you can’t imagine your life without sweets, a fruit cocktail with a spoon of honey or sweet syrup will be a great useful alternative to fast carbohydrates that are not useful at all.
• Low calorie content of the drink. Are smoothies good for the thin ones? Such a drink has very few calories, but it can satisfy a sense of hunger for a long time, and is often included in various weight-loss programs.
• Normalize the digestive system. The crazy rhythm of life forces people to be in a constant hurry, often without time for a normal and meaningful meal; Most people replace the food they need with tea and a sandwich, which has a negative effect on the body. The lack of necessary elements, such as fiber, leads to stomach malfunctions. A few fruits rubbed into a smoothie help solve this problem.
• It cleans the body of toxins. Many negative factors affect the body every day. With food, water, air, we have an unpleasant collection of harmful substances that tend to accumulate in the body and poison it from the inside. Powerful detox cocktails contribute to effective purification of the organism.
• Smoothies are suitable for people who are active in sports, and they contribute to recovery after training and muscle build-up.
• Freshly cooked cocktails positively influence the general state of the organism, energize and fill with vitamins.
• Elixir of Youth. If the body is not deficient in healthy substances and vitamins, the skin will be perfect: it will be moist, smooth and clean.
• Proper nutrition is the key to a healthy body. A smoothie is one of the main components of a healthy diet, as it consists of fresh fruits and vegetables.
• Strengthening of the immune system. Many of us have seasonal colds: this is due to a year of vitamin deficiency, and the immune system is gradually weakening and unable to resist infection. Daily intake of vitamin smoothies significantly improves immunity and protects the body from cold diseases.
• A full sleep. If the general state of the organism improves, then the person will not have trouble sleeping, which means every day it will be full of energy.
• In a smoothie you can harmoniously add useful but specific ingredients such as celery, green or spinach. Many do not like their specific tastes, but in cocktails they will be disguised and the benefits of these ingredients will be provided.
• Delicious cocktails have a favorable effect on energy: a healthy organism, filled with vitamins, always radiates a positive energy.
• A smoothie activates brain function and improves memory.

Harm smoothie
Damage to smoothies can only be caused by excessive consumption (several times a day) or by substituting solid food with cocktails, and also if there are allergic reactions to the ingredients of the cocktail.
If you follow the basic rules of making smoothies, the cocktail will have a positive effect on the body and fill it with vitamins and energy. So, the basic rules for a useful smoothie:
1. Most of the vitamins can be obtained by adding green ingredients to the smoothie, such as spinach, lettuce, mint, parsley.
2. In order to give a smoothie its characteristic consistency, one must choose the correct basis. The basis can be avocados, bananas, pears or others.
3. Don’t ignore the addition of protein. Protein comes from dairy products, nuts, seeds.
4. Choose a consistent cocktail to your liking: it can be a little more or a little less uniform, here everything depends on the preferences.
5. Avoid adding sugar, it can be replaced by sweet fruits like banana, mango. In extreme cases, one spoon of honey may be added, but don’t overdo it with sweetness.
6. Doctors recommend drinking smoothies in the morning - this way they will maximize the energy of the body and have a favorable effect on the body as a whole. It is also important to remember that only freshly cooked smoothies are good for consumption and for maximum benefit, as the vitamins die under the influence of oxygen and light and only a delicious cocktail is left that will not have the necessary effect.
In answer to the question «Smoothie - use or harm to body?» We can safely say that this cocktail has a positive influence on the general state, energies and vitamins, the main thing is to maintain balance and know the measure of use, in order not to provoke possible negative nuances, which we shall discuss later.
In order to include smoothies in your diet, there are no contraindications, but it is worth remembering that, despite all the usefulness of smoothies described above, you always have to know the measure and stick to the norm: an excess of utility can also hurt.
Homemade smoothies are 100% natural and are a vitamin cocktail. Freshly cooked cocktails contain a range of vitamins, microelements, fiber and antioxidants. But if you don’t want to feel the damage of a smoothie to your body, you have to remember that it’s not worth getting too involved. And that’s why. Smoothies, while useful, are often given in honey, sugar, or other sweeteners, which are not particularly useful and can lead to an excess of sugar in the body, causing weight problems or hormone disorders. It is best to reduce the consumption of sweeteners - then you can fully benefit from the drink.
To saturate the body with useful elements, it is necessary to maintain balance and to consume not more than one glass of smoothie per day. Are smoothies harmful? No, if you keep up with the norm, and if you abuse the cocktail, you get the following problems:
1. If you completely replace the full-fledged food with liquid or purple cocktails, the load on the teeth and gums is significantly reduced. In order to keep the teeth healthy, you have to have a certain amount of stress, that is, you have to chew, you have to bite: this stimulates the saliva separation - the natural antiseptic. If there is no chewing movement, the saliva is released in smaller, insufficient quantities, which means that teeth are not fully cleaned, bacteria reproduce and develop caries and other problems, such as dental plaque.
2. Although a smoothie can replace a good meal, it’s not a juice without fiber. There’s enough fiber in the smoothie, but there’s only one fiber missing to keep the stomach pumped. Lack of solid food disrupts the gastrointestinal tract, increasing the likelihood of constipation.
3. If unwashed or stale ingredients are used for cooking, you can easily be poisoned.
4. The use of a smoothie without a tube also places a heavy burden on tooth enamel, often resulting in increased sensitivity.
5. Excessive use of smoothies, which include dairy components, significantly increases cholesterol in the body and, as a result, causes problems in the cardiovascular system.
One more piece of advice. Bad smoothies can be found in shops or cafes. You don’t want to get into a smoothie in a café, because if you make a drink at home, you know the ingredients. But in a public restaurant you can often encounter the greedy and get under the guise of a smoothie just a thick cocktail with various flavors that have nothing to do with nature and certainly will not be useful.

🍋 Littles: Why include this exotic fruit in your winter diet

So it’s time to talk about the litter. This beautiful fruit grows on an evergreen tree as well as a grapefruit. It usually weighs between 1.5 and 8 kilograms. And if everyone used to think that the litter was a hybrid of grapefruit and some other fruit, then I’m going to dissociate all of your thoughts, because the litter is a pretty independent fruit whose fruit has a pear-shaped or spherical shape.
The fruit is also ripe in February, but there may be several species of this fruit. They are most often classified by color and are such as pink, red, yellow and green. So if you see green litter on the market, take it and don’t worry that the fruit isn’t ripe yet. The fruit tree is litter for about six months, which means that we have another so-called natural treasure trove of useful vitamins and minerals.
🥔 What do you need to know about litter
• It’s the biggest citrus fruit, sweeter and less sour than a grapefruit.
• The flesh is drier than other citrus fruits.
• It can be up to 25 cm in diameter and up to 2 kg in weight. The skin thickness is up to 5 cm.
• In China, they still give happiness to each other on New Year’s Eve.
• They sell it wrapped in film and covered with netting. This protects and creates a barrier against various molds. And the mesh is a carrier handle.
🫒 What’s the use of litter and how to eat it properly
• It is a rich source of food fibre that effectively accelerates digestive processes. You only have to eat a few pieces of the fetus to make you feel full.
• Traditionally, littlefish are eaten raw and fresh - then you feel good taste and aroma. It is also a good supplement to fruit and vegetable salads.
• Like other citrus, litter contains useful substances: vitamin C, vitamins B1, B2, beta-carotene, calcium.
• This little known fruit is a valuable source of bioflavonoids - antioxidants. It is recommended for people with atherosclerosis, weakened immunity and skin problems. It is useful to use for the prevention of influenza and other ARV, as it contains, in addition to vitamin C, fruit acids and essential oils, which are natural phytoncides.
• Adults are advised to eat not more than 100 g of citrus per day.

🥭 This citrus, not surprisingly, is very useful for men, because it is an aphrodisiac and beneficial for potency and libido. Like any citrus, littles gives the body strength, tone and energy. The fruit is often used for weight loss, but only because it is low in terms of calories. For 100 grams of fruit, it’s only 35 kcal.
🍉 I think you’re used to the fact that there’s harm, too, so we’ll talk about it a little bit, too. This kind of litter can cause allergies, which means it’s not good for babies under 3, for nursing mothers and pregnant women to eat it. And if you have an individual intolerant, you should also stop using fruit, because it can result in laryngeal edema and then choke. Also take good care of what you eat in cafes or restaurants, because they do not always indicate the full composition of the dish, and if you have an individual impatience of the fruit, another pleasant hike can turn out to be very bad.

🍏 The Use of Apples. How do you eat apples?
Everyone says apples are good. But it turns out there are limits! The chemicals in apples can have both positive and negative effects on the human body - let us address which apples can be harmful.

🍎 Benefit of apples
Apples are perhaps the most common fruit on earth - there are about 10,000 varieties of apples! The pale yellow, green, pink and red apples differ mainly in appearance and composition are similar. It is believed that one apple contains such a large stock of vitamins and nutrients that one apple a day can save from many diseases: from vitamin deficiency and anaemia, to cancer.
Of course, the apple contains vitamins C, K, group B, riboflavine, potassium, copper, manganese and magnesium, organic compounds, phyto-enzymes and flavonoids (such as epicatecin, quercetin and chloride). Apples are also an excellent source of polyphenols, antioxidants that protect cells from oxidative stress and prolong youth.
Apples contain many pectins - soft food fibers that are enterosorbents, strengthen the peristaltic intestines and softly remove constipation. The consumption of one average apple per day provides about 12% of the daily demand for fibre.

🍏 Myths of apples
It is believed that apples can treat anemia, a serious disruption of blood cell structure that reduces haemoglobin concentration. This disease is also known as anaemia. Iron deficiency is one of the causes of anaemia. But in fact, apples contain very little iron (2.2 mg - 2-5% of the daily norm), so anemia will definitely not be cured with it.
And with vitamin C the same story - one apple contains about 7-10% of the daily dose of ascorbic acid, so it is better to add rosehip fruit, red pepper or black currant to the diet of vitamin C. Or eat at least 12 to 14 apples a day.
The apple diet is also a myth. These fruits contain many carbohydrates - in one sweet apple "hidden" about two or three teaspoons of sugar! An apple cannot be considered a low-calorie product, with about 80 kcal in each case.
🍎 How do you eat apples?
It is best to eat one apple a day as a snack, a separate meal, not combining fruit with other products - this way it will be better digested and absorbed. It is interesting that an apple is better eaten with a heart - it contains useful bacteria that act as probiotics and help form healthy intestinal immunity. It’s even better to cut the apple into pieces to make sure there are no unpleasant surprises inside - insects, mold or other defects.
You can make chips from apples, but you have to remember that they have five to six times higher sugar content than raw apples. They’re very appetizing, they have a lot of fiber, but if you’re watching the calories, you have to use the potato chips from the apples in moderation.
Remember that heat treatment in apples destroys vitamins, so baked and stewed apples are only valuable as sources of fibre. They are easier and faster to digest and absorb. Of course, apples make delicious pies, pancakes, jam, compotes and other wonderful dishes, but they have very little natural use. Still, give preference to raw fruit.

Use of yogurt
Yoghurt is one of the most ancient and healthful dairy products. The famous scientist Ilya Mechnikov insisted as early as the 1900s on including dairy products and especially yogurt in the diet. A Russian researcher explained the benefits of yogurt to the body by the ability of this product to suppress rotting processes in the intestine and thereby prevent intoxication. In addition, the drink is a veritable storeroom of valuable nutrients told by renowned American medical experts William and Martha Sears in their book on healthy eating.
Yogurt’s over a thousand years old, and it’s been legendary. One of them reveals that the secret of making yogurt with Abraham was shared by the angel himself. According to another, yoghurt was discovered by travelers when the milk they had taken into the desert was clotted. So fermented dairy products have gradually become an integral part of the diet of our ancestors, and now they make us happy. The yogurt boom dates back to the 1970s and has lasted for more than 30 years.
What is yogurt?
Yoghurt is an excellent example of what is called in dietology the principle of interaction, where different products are taken and their combination results in a new, more nutritious product. This is exactly the case when 1+1=3. In accordance with international standards, for a product to qualify as yoghurt, it must meet three criteria:
1. The main ingredient of yogurt is milk.
2. The main production process is fermentation.
3. The main condition for fermentation is the direct participation of living micro-organisms from the lactobacterium family.
Like they do yogurt
First the milk receives a «dose» of useful bacteria. Two microorganisms, Lactobacillus and Streptococcus thermophilus, are added to the pasteurized milk. While it’s still warm, bacteria turn sugar into a special milky substance, which makes yogurt so delicious. Another microorganism, Lactobacillus acidophilus, is also added to some yogurt species to make it healthier. As a result, lactose, proteins, micronutrients and small amounts of fat are transformed into a well-digested product.
Bacterial crops transform about 30% of milk sugar. This explains why many lactose intolerant people can enjoy yogurt, although milk is not. A by-product of fermentation is called lactic acid, which acts as a preservative, allowing yogurt to be stored much longer than milk. Lactic acid also increases the digestibility of proteins and microelements.
Best bacteria for the intestines
Not all yogurts have the same bacterial culture. After fermentation, some yogurt pasteurizes again. It doesn’t make them any better - many useful microbacteria die. There is a special mark of the Food Institute «Living and Active Cultures», which is placed on the label of yogurt containing such bacterial cultures. Keep in mind that when a product is written on the packaging that it is «produced on the basis of living lactobacteries», this does not at all mean that the product is marked by the sign we have talked about. Some yogurts may contain live bacteria, but without a label on the package. If you want to have a guarantee, look for that particular sign.
Avoid buying yogurt, which says that the product has been heat-treated after the fermentation process». This means that yogurt was pasteurized after bacterial cultures were introduced, which almost nullifies the benefits of the product that make it healthy. Such goods are economically profitable to manufacturers and can be stored on the shelves of shops for much longer, but are useless for health. They lack the qualities of nutritious food. People suffering from lactose intolerance, who tolerate yoghurt that contains live lactobacteria, can poorly assimilate species that have undergone re-pasteurization. Yogurt-based salad sauces, yogurt-covered sweets dried fruits, nuts, pretzels, candies do not usually contain living bacterial cultures.
The Consumer Protection Society insists that producers should not call yogurt products that do not contain living bacterial cultures. Once again we remind you to look for yogurt marked with the sign of the Institute of Nutrition, because it is the only real indication that the product does contain living lactobacteria, which was not only there during fermentation, but also remained after its end.
Useful advice. The Lactobacillus bulgaricus culture in yogurt is always present, but Lactobacillus acidophilus is not. It can be added. This microorganism is more useful for colon than Lactobacillus bulgaricus. Look for Lactobacillus acidophilus in the list of ingredients of yogurt.
10 reasons to appreciate yogurt
1. Digested better than milk. Many people who suffer from lactose intolerance or allergy to milk protein may eat yogurt. The fermentation process makes it a product that digests much better than milk. Under the influence of living bacterial cultures, lactase, an enzyme is lacking in the body of people suffering from lactose intolerance. Another enzyme, beta-galactosidase, found in some yogurts, also contributes to a more efficient absorption of dairy sugar in people who lack lactase. In addition, the enzymes partially recycle the milk, making the product less allergenic. Children suffering from lactose intolerance are able to absorb yogurt easily without discomfort. Although the content of lactose depends on the type of product, any yogurt still contains less than milk. Fermentation cleaves milk sugar into glucose and galactosis, which are easily absorbed by the body.
2. Helps the colon stay healthy. Doctors often say: You are as healthy as your colon is healthy». Including yoghurt in your diet, you do two things for your body.
First, yoghurt contains lactobacteria, which favours the operation of the bowel, while helping to prevent the risk of developing colon cancer. Lactobacteria (especially Lactobacillus acidophilus normalizes bowel microflora, inhibiting neoplasm. The more bacteria you have in your bowel, the lower the risk of developing colon cancer. Mainly beneficial bacteria contained in yogurt block harmful substances (e.g., nitrites) before they become carcinogenic.
Second, yogurt is a valuable source of calcium (cf. below). This microelement «monitors» the state of the mucous intestine, thus preventing the development of a condition that may cause colon cancer. People whose diet includes a lot of calcium (for example, people in Scandinavian countries) are less exposed to this oncological pathology. There is evidence that it takes 1.2 mg of calcium per day to reduce the risk of developing colon cancer by 75%. As a survivor of the cancer surgery in this localization, I’m particularly interested in preventing relapse, because my life depends on it.
3. Improves the uptake of other nutrients. Useful bacteria contained in yogurt help to improve the absorption of calcium and vitamins of group B. In particular, lactic acid, which is found in yogurt, improves the absorption of calcium from milk, improving its absorption by the walls of the intestine.
4. Strengthens immunity. There is evidence that if a person eats two cups of yogurt every day, their body is intensely given immune-enhancing interferon. Bacterial cultures contained in yogurt stimulate white blood cells to help control infections. There are experimental studies that suggest that lactobacteria can suppress tumor development.
5. Helps to recover from intestinal infections. Some viral infections and allergic reactions can cause damage to the mucous intestines, especially those cells that produce lactase. As a result, there is a temporary dysfunction of the bowel, which is reflected in poor uptake of lactose. This is why children with intestinal infections are unable to drink milk for several months after their illness, even though they drank it before the disease and had no problems with lactose. Since yogurt is a fermented product, it avoids problems of this kind and can be of definite use when included in the diet during recovery from infection. It’s also good to eat yogurt if you’re taking antibiotics, because it minimizes the negative impact of this group of drugs on the mucous intestine.
6. May suppress fungal infections. There is good evidence that if two cups of natural yogurt are eaten every day, it will help maintain normal vaginal microflora and reduce the possibility of developing fungal infections.
7. Valuable source of calcium. Two yogurt cups contain 450 mg of calcium. This is half of the recommended daily calcium intake for a child and about 30-40 per cent of the adult intake. Since the presence of living bacterial crops improves the uptake of calcium, it follows that in choosing between yogurt and milk, preference should be given to the former.
8. Wonderful source of proteins. Natural yogurt contains 10-14 g of protein (two cups), which is 20% of the recommended daily intake for any person. Again, yogurt containing living bacterial cultures gives the body more proteins than milk (10 g and 8 g, respectively). During the fermentation process, the milk protein is transformed in yogurt, and the body absorbs it much more easily.
9. Lowers the level of «bad» cholesterol. It is believed that the inclusion of yogurt in the diet may affect cholesterol levels. And positively, reducing «bad» cholesterol. However, this hypothesis needs to be confirmed.
10. Product «combinations». Two nutritional properties of yogurt support this view. First, it is readily absorbed by the body, and second, it improves the uptake of vitamins and micronutrients derived from other products. That’s why you can use yogurt as a sauce or replace it with sour cream.
Perhaps we should follow the example of those peoples who eat a lot of yogurt, like the Bulgarians. Bulgaria is known for its longevity and for the fact that many people in that country remain healthy even in old age.
Useful advice. Antibiotics kill not only the harmful but also the healthy bacteria that live in the intestine. Living bacterial cultures of yogurt help to restore intestinal microflora before pathogens start to breed and dominate useful bacteria. I usually recommend that my little patients have a glass of yogurt a day if the baby has to take antibiotics, not just at that time, but for a couple of weeks.
