Today marks seven months since my dad passed away. This afternoon, I got on a call with Maurice Muchene from buildOn, the organization through which my dad and I built two schools. The first was in Nepal, and then, just a few years later, we traveled to Senegal to build another. The timing of the call felt like a gift, a quiet reminder of our shared journey.

Maurice brought up a photo from our fundraising page—a picture of my dad and me in Senegal, both of us beaming. I could feel my heart swell, remembering the pure happiness of those days. We were side by side with villagers, mixing cement and stacking bricks, working shoulder to shoulder to bring a dream into reality.

Looking back, I told Maurice, those experiences were the greatest gift I could have ever received. Those days of building, of laughing, and of working toward something bigger than ourselves, created memories I’ll hold forever. Every brick in those schools holds a piece of my dad’s legacy, a lasting testament to the bond we shared, the lives he touched, and the spirit he passed down to me.
