OUR COVID STORY.

Hope this post can help guide mommies out there. Mommies, you cannot rely on the doctors or hospital staff to ne as concerned as you with your children. Read on what you should watch out for and how to go about dealing with complications when COVID hits an unvaccinated toddler. You need to stay alert and make sure your doctor is pro active with yoyr child's needs.

Stay safe & guard your little ones from this virus.

DAY1 25th of December, around 5:30am my son stared vomiting thick transparent liquid (phlegm), si baby daddy told me almost 10am na by this time, my Enzo has been vomiting 6x.

Called some doctors some said to give him an expectorant. But we thought this was something serious, so he was rushed to the ER since he was also complaining of tummy pain.

5 Hours at the ER, they ran tests, the hardest part to see was Enzo was crying & shaking scared due to the abdominal pain as he refused an IV line administered. Nakakaawa yung bata haay. He then fell asleep due to exhaustion saka lang naihook sa dextrose yung line.

Swab test turned out Enzo was Covid-19 positive so he was put in an isolation room. Immediately, he was given Cefixim IV and other meds.

DAY2: 26th of December Enzo was still complaining of tummy pain, he is now having diarrhea, developed gas and tummy started to bloat. Fever kicked in.

DAY3: 27th The fever lasted for 24 hours, IV paracetamol was given every 4hours, but then tummy pain, gassy, diarrhea was still an issue.

The doctor ordered Omeprazole but there was no change in condition.

At this point watch out for:
(1) Butt iritation due to frequent wiping.

What we failed to do:
We used wipes at the start then later switched to use wet cotton balls on the onset palang dapat cotton na to prevent irritation, do not wipe, dab, dab, dab!

What we did:
Applied elica cream which was my go-to for skin irritations later on (Day 7), the doctor advised Calmoseptine.

(2) Monitor fever closely
Enzo was easily irritated from all the 4 symptoms/ issues, ayaw nang mgpakuha ng temp sa armpits. You need an ear thermometer cos the forehead thermo gun is fu***ng useless & inaccurate.

What we did:
2.1 Nonstop face towel punas with cold water, keep another set inside the ref.
2.2 Fed him pocari, yakult, Chuckie (bawal pala cos chocolate causes acidity)
2.3 Cool Fever on armpits
2.4 Ice bags daw dont work as much as cold water bath, fever goes down faster.

DAY4: 28th of December
No more fever but the abdominal pain is worst crying was nonstop, another med was added it was not working, the whole day Enzo was crying, will doze off to sleep due to exhaustion then wakes up crying again.

I called the pedia ordered for an abdominal Xray, result showed that his ileum (last part of the small intestine) wasn't contracting DUE TO LOW POTASSIUM. Then an abdominal CT Scan, sodium, potassium check was requested at 11pm na 😔😔 (stress level was hot red since 3pm and with matching kinakabahan why may CT Scan?!!?)
.. with contrast dye?! shet. Was supposed to do it at 4am, hospital tech was not available until 9am so my son's fasting was at 10 hours na by the time we were done sa CT Scan mas dehydrated na anak ko. (But that story is for my next post, all expose about how inefficient &. callus this hospital was).DAY5: 29th of December at 7am lab results came out discovered bagsak na potassium ng bata (tsk). A special kind of dextrose was then administered, was advised to be given Flotera ( a special kind of probiotics)

Flotera® contains 100 million CFU of Lactobacillus reuteri (L. reuteri) DSM 17938® which is used for enhancing intestinal ecology, improving digestion and helping enhance natural resistance to intestinal infections. (Google)

(Sana inagahan yung Flotera 😔😔)

CT Scan reading came out unremarkable (meaning all's good no abdominal concerns)

Weankess, abdominal pain was still present, Enzo was still crying with kicking episodes siguro may shooting pain sa abdomen nya, ayaw mgpa baba always 'mommy I want carry' (actually pumutok biceps ko, walang sinabi biceps ni Hidylyn Diaz).

DAY6: 30th of December
Weankess, abdominal pain episodes, crying (haaay Enzo shouldn't have suffered kung naagapan lang yung diarrhea again say it with me, Racecadotril!!DAY 7: 31st of December
After the dextrose has been taken out. Enzo had another bout of diarrhea at this point I messaged his pedia. He advised Racecadotril. I was so shocked when I Googled what it can do.

Racecadotril is used in treatment of acute diarrhea, reduces hypersecretion of water and electrolytes into the intestine (Google)

Mommies, you need this on hand. have at least 4packs of this on hand. Flotera is really pricey so Erce Flora is another probiotics that help with gut issues.

What we failed to do:
Racecadotril should've been on the onset palang. It's in powder form mix in water.
