There’s a version of me I really love, she’s grounded, flexible, goes with the flow.
She can handle a glitchy browser or a last-minute reschedule without spiraling.
She doesn’t freeze in the face of minor inconveniences.

But I don’t always wake up as her.

Sometimes I wake up already full.

One mild inconvenience, tech that won’t load, an unexpected ask, a delayed plan tips me right over.

And then I find myself asking:
Why does this feel like such a big deal?

Here’s what I remind myself (and my clients):
You’re not bad at handling life.
Your brain and nervous system just don’t buffer stress the way some do.

That’s not a flaw. It’s a place to build capacity. Slowly. With care.

You don’t need to stretch your tolerance to the breaking point.
You just need to learn how to stay in it, one breath longer than before.

It’s not small. It’s signaling something real.

Do you always feel like life is happening TO you?

When you’re learning to manage adhd, the first things you have to do are get rid of shame & shoulds then make sure your nervous system feels safe enough to experiment and fail.

Once you’re there, the most valuable practical tool is learning to pause.

Our impulsivity is what causes us to feel like we are never living life on our terms, like we act then eventually notice what we’ve done after we’re in motion.

One of my clients said her life felt like the windows 95 screen saver where the stars & meteors were just constantly flying at her. (P.S. she says it no longer feels that way)

Learning to slow down and coach yourself (kindly) through the day to day tough stuff will change your life forever.

And by tough stuff, I mean putting laundry away or brushing your teeth, or finishing that email that’s scary, or restarting an exercise routine.

Choose one thought to practice this week as you practice the pause! I’m cheering for you!
