Here's a sneak peek of a sequence we practice in Core + Pelvic floor Yoga, focusing on the rib cage and thoracic spine.
✨ These classes have lots of alignment focus, are seeded with information on pelvic floor health and support, as well as tips to carry on working on your pelvic floor and core off the mat.
✨ You can expect a 75-minute, glorious yoga class that will leave your mind and body feeling refreshed and reconnected.
✨ The next 6 week series begins tonight and has Drop In spots available - link in bio to register :-)

Core & Pelvic Floor Yoga
**TWO SPOTS LEFT**
If you have been thinking os signing up but didn't get around to it - now is the time!
Core + Pelvic Floor Yoga is a 6 weeks series of learning and movement to work on restoring function to your pelvic floor and reconnecting to your core.
it starts on Tuesday, Sept 21st at 7.30pm (each session is 75 mins) at Mahogany Beach Club.
No prior yoga experience is required ~ all you need is a yoga mat and a pelvic floor!
→ Kegels focus on contraction of the pelvic floor - many people experiencing pelvic floor concerns have an over-tight pelvic floor, and need to practice release of the muscles.
🙏🏼 Also, without professional advice, the Kegels you are doing are quite possibly not being done correctly - its worth finding out.
A pelvic floor physio/PT can assess your pelvic floor and give you a treatment plan. Yoga or movement from a pelvic floor movement specialist can help you bring that treatment plan into your daily life.

Yes that's right - and you could be doing it wrong! This is the most mind-blowing concept in pelvic floor health. HOW can we be breathing wrong - we are still alive, right?!
Some factors to think about:
✨ We have learned to suck tummies in to look flatter. This restricts breath.
✨ Under stress we tend to take more shallow breaths - and stress levels are higher than ever.
✨ Shallow breathing activates our fight or flight reflex - keeping those stress levels higher
✨ BONUS - stress also impacts your muscles, including the pelvic floor.
Try -
✨ Taking deeper breaths and noticing movement in the body when you do - do the ribs lift and open with the deep breaths (see my reel on diaphragmatic breath to practice this)?
Why:
✨ Breathing deeply helps to down-regulate the nervous system and reduce stress.
✨Diaphragmatic breath helps the core canister to move in unison, supporting healthy movement of the pelvic floor muscles.

Without a doubt, the most beautiful spot I have practised in to date!
Last week I took some of my own advice and spent some time alone, moving, meditating and finding some stillness. Stress had started to get the better of me and when I step back on my mat I can find a little peace. My soul gets restored.
I saw deer, but no bears, and the whiff of a skunk nearby was an unwanted distraction 😬😆
Too often we put our own needs at the bottom of the list. What can you do today for yourself?
→ Leaking urine is a sign of a pelvic floor not operating optimally.
→ Common does not = normal.
→ 25% of women experience urinary leaking after pregnancy.
→ 50% of women experience it after menopause.
🤯 It's the #1 cause of admission to nursing homes for older women in the US.
→ 85% of women that seek assistant for this issue see improvement or complete recovery.
Pelvic floor retraining can help with urinary leaking:
- see a pelvic PT for an assessment
- learn how to connect to those muscles
- maintain that connection and support of the pelvic floor for optimal function
💡 Busting some myths about the pelvic floor! 💡
🎤 Recently I watched a free webinar by a local Health Foundation on Pelvic Health - I was so excited to watch it but my jaw dropped to the floor the further into it I got. Misinformation and fear-mongering is everywhere (as are surgeons making money off of women dealing with urinary incontinence, apparently).
✔️ So - I scheduled a 5 week series, before summer, to share the knowledge I have and help women work on their own pelvic floor disorders, without major surgery (which still requires pelvic floor physio and breath and movement work post-surgery).
🙏🏼 If you need info on local pelvic floor physios in YYC, message me.
🙏🏼 If you have any questions, or concerns or need some guidance, also feel free to message me.
❓ What do I know? ❓ I am trained in Pre & Postnatal yoga, Yoga for Pelvic Health and have been a member of the Pelvic Health Professionals for 18 months, learning all the new research, techniques and information around pelvic floor health from world-leading physios, uro-gynaecologists and other experts in the field. So if I don't know the answer, I can find it for you.
✨ Registration is now open for this 5 week online series! ✨

→ Low back/pelvic pain
→ Core feels 'noodly'
→ Prolapse - any stage
→ You've been doing your Kegels to no avail and are feeling lost, frustrated and on the verge of seeking surgery,
