Everyone’s sensory system is unique, but there’s one “rule” we like to follow in OT:
Always complete a proprioceptive-based activity after a vestibular-based activity!
Vestibular input (like spinning or swinging) can be alerting—and sometimes even overstimulating.
Proprioceptive activities (like pushing, pulling, or climbing) are typically calming for the nervous system.
So, pairing the two can help bring the body back to balance.
Here’s what that might look like:
➡️ Swing then climb
➡️ Go down a hill then slow ride with animals
➡️ Spin on a swing then slide through a tunnel
➡️ Run and jump and crash
This sequence can support regulation and reduce feelings of overstimulation.
Think of it like this:
Vestibular = 🚀
Proprioception = 🧸
It’s all about helping little bodies find balance
