Community Pharmacy Lancashire & South Cumbria CPLSC is the new representative body for Community Pharmacy contractors across Lancs & South Cumbria

The Lancashire Local Pharmaceutical Committee are now known as Community Pharmacy Lancashire. A Local Pharmaceutical Committee, or LPC, is a statutory body that works within NHS regulations to represent and support community pharmacists and owners of community pharmacies. Community pharmacies (also known as chemists) can be found across Lancashire e.g. in health centres, supermarkets and high streets, villages and local housing estates and also online. Community Pharmacy Lancashire works with the local NHS England area team, local authorities and other healthcare professionals to help plan health care across the area (including Blackpool Council, Blackburn with Darwen Council and Lancashire County Council areas). The LPC works with commissioners to implement community pharmacy services. They are available to advise community pharmacists and owners, as well as allied professions such as GPs and hospitals. This advice is also available to those who want to know more about what their local pharmacy can offer them, or those people who are simply visiting the area.

Frontline Feedback: CPLSC Contractors Share Their Reality with NHS Leaders

CPLSC Chief Executive Mubasher Ali was Honoured to Host National NHS England Leaders, David Webb, Ali Sparke and Stephen Riley FRPharmS in our Local Community Pharmacies across Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board

Our contractors Tariq Malik, manager Ruth & team at , Lancaster & Michael Ball, Mark, manager Lisa & team at , Preston, had the privilege of showcasing the incredible NHS services they provide across their neighbourhoods, as Core Pillars of Primary Care.

This visit was a valuable opportunity for our frontline contractors to speak directly with national senior leaders about their passion for patient care & NHS services delivery but also the real day to day challenges they face, particularly around cash flow pressures, Pharmacy First monthly thresholds/caps, monthly drug reimbursement impacts, and the wider funding impact of the core contract.

These conversations sparked important debates and highlighted the urgent need for a strong and sustainable baseline funding model for our contractors, to unlock the full potential of community pharmacy in delivering more clinical services.

It was also inspiring for our leaders to view first hand the sheer dedication of our front line teams, going above and beyond in support of clinical care for patients whilst also seeking to maximise the use of skill mix, which is being made possible via innovative digital systems such as .

CPLSC Chief Executive Mubasher Ali also emphasised the huge opportunities around prevention, diagnostics and medicines optimisation that lie ahead, in line with the NHS 10 year plan but strongly echoed the current cash flow crisis, as identified through the Economic Analysis of NHS Pharmaceutical Services and the Community Pharmacy England four point plan for the sector.

We’re grateful for the engagement and allowing for our local contractor voices to be heard and look forward to your ongoing support in lobbying for meaningful change for all our contractors.

🚑 Strengthening Urgent Care Pathways in East Lancashire
CPLSC Chief Executive Mubasher Ali recently took part in a wider collaborative effort across East Lancs, working alongside key stakeholders from with Darwen Council, primary and secondary care colleagues, and .
Together, we explored how the ED streamer can be optimised to alleviate pressure on secondary care A&E services—ensuring patients receive the right care, at the right time, in the right place. 🏥
A key focus was identifying opportunities to streamline patients directly to pharmacy services, such as Pharmacy First and Urgent Supply, where appropriate. These pathways have the potential to deliver faster, more efficient care while reducing unnecessary hospital admissions.
It was a pleasure to join Arif Patel, Karen Dean, and Georgina Robertson from the ED department at , along with many other dedicated colleagues and clinicians, for a productive discussion on shaping the future of urgent care delivery.
Collaboration like this is what drives meaningful change. 💡

🌟 A fantastic visit with Westmorland and Furness Council Public Health Manager John Salisbury alongside Simon Abbott's team Chris & John Boots UK in Barrow-in -Furness within Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB) Alfred Health Centre.

We explored the core services supporting our local community—including Pharmacy First, Hypertension Management, and a range of locally commissioned services in partnership with Westmorland and Furness Council.

These include vital support for Assisted Medicines Treatment and the critical supervision offer, helping ensure safe and effective care for those who need it most.

It was also great to hear our Chief Executive Mubasher share insights on the future of injectable treatments in community pharmacy settings, alongside a broader, more holistic approach that integrates oral health and comprehensive health reviews for such individuals.

🚶‍♂Out and about in the Furness community!

Our Chief Executive Mubasher Ali visited Edgar Medical Centre to support their Care Navigation team in enhancing Pharmacy First referrals—a key step in easing pressure on clinicians and ensuring patients get timely access to care.

He also visited the Cohens Chemist opposite where he met with Iain, Aliysha & team who were ready and equipped to support the local population with GP-referred minor illnesses.
With the inclusion of the seven common conditions now eligible for treatment under Pharmacy First, including antibiotic prescribing where appropriate, this initiative is making a real difference in frontline healthcare.
