Taking the self employment plunge

Hi,

I’m Jules, founder of Hobbs Holistic Health. I have always been interested in health and fitness and started as a gym instructor at 18 years old where I ran my own Personal Training business. After finishing a business degree at 25 years old, I was attracted by the dangling carrot of steady work, more money and benefits that came from working for a large Bank. I took a temporary contract, promising myself that I would continue to work part time in health and fitness with the intention to return within a year.

I very quickly became distracted by the whirl of the business world and climbed the career ladder. I loved being a manager, helping others develop and improve, but hated the office politics and red tape! As I approached my 30s, I was no longer teaching part time nor had any sport or regular gym as a hobby because I was “too busy.” My nutrition suffered and I would consistently eat on the run or treat myself to food that I knew was poisonous to my body after a long day.

By Spring of 2017 I was a shadow of my former self and my fitness had suffered. I came to a point where I simply couldn’t cope anymore after a year of work, personal and health issues (which included considerable work stress, glandular fever, adrenal fatigue, anxiety and depression). Anxiety crept up on me like a ghost in the night and all of a sudden I was sat in front of a Doctor unable to function in daily life.
