When I speak with clients who have an apathetic view of their life, and are feeling unmotivated and lack enthusiasm for anything, there are 3 questions that I always ask;

1. How much time do you spend with the people that you love?

2. How much time do you spend doing the things that you love?

3. How much time do you spend doing the things you love with the people that you love?

I can gain a very quick insight and understanding of one's life, by understanding the answers to the above questions.

It's strange, but in many peoples eyes.... Wealth and status are measured by how much one owns, as opposed to how many people you have in your life, who you can depend on, who will be there for you no matter what, who will love and care for you unconditionally.

A recent large scale survey was carried out in America covering the above questions and almost 60% of people over 50, said they had between 0 to 1 person.... Which is very sad.

Like many people, I like nice things, but if you stripped me of them tomorrow.... I would be okay, because 'things' are replaceable (And if not, who cares.... Get something new), but people and experiences (Ideally shared together) are not.

When you're gone, do you think people are going to remember the shoes, the watch, the bag, or the wide screen TV that you bought them.... Hell No!!! People will remember you for the memories that you created.

I live over 5500 miles from my mum, family and friends.... But I always make time in my life for them no matter what... Because they are all that truly matters.... Alongside my gorgeous wife of course, and if any of them were to call me tomorrow and tell me they needed a kidney.... Before they'd finished the sentence, I would have agreed, because I know that they would all do the same for me.

So, we recently discovered that we were fortunate enough to be carrying Giardia cysts in our small intestine.... Woohooooooo!! Which must have been a kind going away gift from the mountain lakes in Peru... Haha

Once we discovered that these pesky unwanted neighbours had taken up residence, we knew we had to get rid of them before they burst and caused real problems.... Which meant that we had to take very strong antibiotics for two weeks.... As you can imagine, we were well EXCITED!! 😂😂

Anyway, for those of you not in the know, when you take antibiotics, they kill all of the bad bacteria, which is good. How, they also kill all of the good bacteria, which is definitely not a good thing, unless of course you like your mind and immune system to look and feel like a plane wreck.

Did you know that even if you only take antibiotics for a week, it can take upto a year for your gut biome to return to normal. Crazy right!!??

You must be thinking, what the hell does this have to do with the pictures that I have posted..... Well, if you want to get your gut flora back to a good place, you have two options.

1. A f***l transplant.... I considered this for all of zero seconds
2. Load up on Probiotic foods (Yoghurt, Kimchi, Sauerkraut, Kombucha, to name but a few) and prebiotics (Which is fibre that the human body cannot break down) which serve as food for the microorganisms AKA 'Probiotics' in your gut.

Great prebiotic foods such as Nuts, Oats, Seeds and Dried Fruits are all very good sources.

I am safe to say that my homemade granola, along with my homemade coconut yoghurt will have us back to our old selves in no time 🙏🙏🙏 Plus we have avoided a p**p implant which is also great news. Haha 😂 😂

Homemade strawberry and chia jam, PB and an array of fruits and nuts are the perfect snack at any time of the day. Plus this quick snack ensures i meet my daily vitamin C requirement.

Can you believe that since 2007, the average % of fruit and vegetables consumed per household has actually gone down?? It was 4.4 and is now 3.9. Plus 70% of people in the UK eat less than the recommended 5 portions of fruit/vegetables a day, which seems insane!

You cannot store vitamin C, nor can your body make it,, which is why its so important to load up every day.

Over a billion people worldwide suffer with anaemia, and one way of driving down this number is by ensuring that when you eat iron fuelled food (Heme Meat, Non Heme Plants), you serve it with foods high in vitamin C, as this dramatically increases the iron absorption. However, they have to be paired together at the same meal to have any effect.

Foods that have the highest concentrations of Vitamin C include;

Red Bell Peppers
Blackcurrants
Chilli Peppers
Thyme
Kale
Kiwis
Broccoli
Lemons
Strawberrys

Your body and mind are a machine like any other. Look after them and you will reap the rewards.

I see people raving about their gummy vitamins, but considering that the best brands have less than 1/40th of a teaspoon of natural fruits and vegetables...... Combined with the processing will never convince me nor should it others to replace a nutrition packed powerhouse of a breakfast bowl with a croissant and a gummy vitamin!

Strengthening and maintaining your hips are one of the best things you can do for your body....

Hundreds of thousands of people around the world are hospitalised each year due to hip fractures, which could have been prevented in a large percentage of cases.

In the Western world, people spend around 12 - 14 hours a day sat down. Inactivity is one of the main culprits for tight, painful hips. Tight hips create a domino effect, as other muscle groups have to compensate for the weak, tight muscles in your hips.

Lower back pain along with tight quads and hamstrings are subsequent effects of the above. And guess what..... Before you know it, the way you walk has been effected and then the damage can quickly become irreparable.

So, if you want to avoid the pain and potential injuries described above, I would definitely recommend a daily stretch routine. If you can commit to between 10 and 15 minutes a day, you will start to feel and reap the benefits within about a month.

Who doesn't love a creamy bowl of garlic roasted beetroot hummus as a snack??

Beetroot hummus is my 3rd favourite snack behind popcorn, with banana and peanut butter sandwiches taking the top spot!😋😋🍌🥜

Beetroot hummus looks and tastes good, but as far as the health benefits go...... Any other snack would have to go some to even come close!

The 1st benefit is the nitrate contained within the beetroot, which once consumed turns into Nitric Oxide. Nitric Oxide relaxes and dilates your blood vessels, which enhance blood flow and therefore increase oxygen efficiency to your muscles. If you are like me and do HIIT workouts at an elevation of almost 3000m, then this makes a big difference.

Secondly, Beetroot Hummus is packed with fibre and protein, which when combined act as a appetite suppressant, so if you are looking to eat something tasty, which will help towards a slimmer waistline, then maybe it is time for a new addition to your diet.

How do you decide what to prepare, cook and eat for You and Your family?

As alot of people know, broccoli (And any other cruciferous vegetables) can be nutrient dense powerhouses.... Filled with cancer fighting antioxidant, but only when prepared correctly.

When you eat broccoli, how do you prepare and cook it?

One of the most important compounds in broccoli is Sulforaphane, which can help control your blood sugars and battle against the cancer causing free radicals.

Before we start to reap the rewards of the sulforaphane, a chemical reaction has to take place. So if you are one of those that unwraps it, chops it and tosses it in a pan of boiling water and eats it, without taking a breath, then You could be seriously missing out!

There are two ways to draw out the Sulforaphane;

1. You chop it and leave it for about 45 minutes - Doing this kick starts the myrosinase activity, which is when the glucoainolate compounds mix with an enzyme called myrosinase, thus creating sulforaphane

2. If You don't have enough time to wait 45 minutes for the above chemical reaction to take place, you can add powdered mustard seeds (Which contain a resilient form of myrosinase) to the cooked broccoli which subsequently boosts the sulforaphane levels.

It's one thing to choose healthy things to eat, but if the preparation is lacking or the correct foods are not paired together, then alot of the benefits are wasted.

Who doesn't love a bowl of overnight oats for breakfast??

Like most things in life that are worthwhile and especially tasty... Overnight oats take a bit of forethought....But it's so worth it 👌🤗👍

This simple bowl of wonder contains;
Rolled Oats
Bee Pollen
Flax Seeds
Chia Seeds
Cinnamon
Maca
Sunflower Seeds
Pumpkin Seeds
Raisins and Sultanas

However!!! For any of the above to make any difference to my health, there are one of two ingredients that have to be added.

Can you guess??

A cap of apple cider vinegar or a tea spoon of lemon juice. 👌👍

If you don't add one of these two, then the phytates bind to the nutrients thus preventing absorption....Aka... Your expended energy is a waste of time. Unless of course, you enjoy doing things without benefits.. Haha 😂

Step 1 Mix the dry ingredients
Step 2 Add your choice of Lemon or Vinegar
Step 3 Add your choice of Milk
Step 4 Add and mix in your choice of sweetener (Honey, Aguave, Maple Syrup...)
Step 5 Leave in the fridge for 12 - 16 hours
Step 6 Add your fruit and toppings the following morning
Step 7 ENJOY!!! 😋☺️🤗👍♥️

Sleep deprivation affects 1 in 3 people on average, and in 90% of cases it's down to life style choices, which is crazy!!

These include;

- Stress
- Work
- Diet
- Too much caffeine + Too late in the day
- Erratic sleeping patterns
- Day time naps
- Alcohol

I've heard plenty of people over the years say "I can survive on 4 - 5 hours..." but don't you want to do more than survive in this life?

For all of You out there, that love injecting botox into your face, save your money, avoid becoming the lion from the Wizard of Oz and get a good night's sleep. When you don't get sufficient sleep, your cortisol levels increase which leads to the breaking down of the available collagen in your body, which helps keep your skin smooth.

Other side affects of long term sleep deprivation include weight gain, obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes... Why? When you get sufficient sleep, your body produces enough leptin (Which is the hormone that moderates your appetite), when you don't, it produces ghrelin, which is an appetite stimulant, thus you eat more and combine this with an apathetic view towards exercise, due to a feeling of exhaustion and before you know it, you're either trying every diet known to man, or you're taking medication.

Many of my clients came to me suffering with the above and within a short period of time, they started to acquire the necessary habits to have a good solid 7 - 9 hours sleep per night.

Who would have thought that the humble popcorn kernel packed such a mouthful of healthy goodness. (When air popped and lightly seasoned, as opposed to been drowned in sugar, salt or butter of course)

When in Ecuador, we generally find any excuse to have popcorn and mix it in with a whole variety of dishes from soups to ceviche or when playing telefunken (Rummy to those in the west) in the evening.

Gram for gram, popcorn contains more iron than spinach, more fibre than whole wheat bread and increases satiety whilst driving down hunger. It is low on calories and high in polyphenols (Antioxidants), which have been linked to better blood circulation, the lowering of heart disease and diabetes, aiding digestion and reducing the risks of certain cancers.

3 Cups of popcorn contain 93 calories!
- 4 Squares of Cadburys dairy milk have 134 calories
- 12 Doritos contain 150 calories
- 1 1/2 cups of cornflakes with milk have 210 calories

Don't get me started on snacks with meat. As an example, an average hotdog on a bun contains 316 calories.

I love doing inversions (Any Yoga pose where your heart is higher from the ground than your head) for many reasons.

From a biological perspective it increases blood circulation and improves the efficiency of oxygen and nutrient circulation throughout the body, whilst helping remove the build up of waste products too.

Inversions come in many forms, but if you are feeling a wee bit sluggish in the afternoon, then doing an inversion can improve alertness, energy and improve mood.
