“Alice in Wonderland Syndrome causes you to experience temporary episodes of distorted perception and disorientation.

The name comes from the fact you may feel either larger or smaller than you really are…

The room you’re in may also seem to shift and feel either closer or further away than it really is.

But these aren’t hallucinations. These experiences are caused by changes in how your brain perceives your environment.

And it doesn’t just affect your perception – it can and does affect multiple senses and that includes your vision, touch, and hearing.

Time can also become distorted as well – either speeding up or slowing down.

It tends only to affect young adults, as most people tend to grow out of it by the time they reach adulthood. Although cases still aren’t totally unheard of…”

Young people are more likely to experience mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety, than any other age group. The stress and trauma of living through COVID-19 may have exacerbated existing mental health conditions or led to the development of new ones.

There is currently no specific research on the long-term mental health effects of COVID-19 on Black children and adolescents. However, it's important to recognise the potential impact of the pandemic on their mental well-being and take proactive steps to support them.

“In the ancient world, if you were feeling depressed, or melancholic, it was due to an overload of black bile. In fact the roots of melancholia stem from the ancient Greek words melas kholē, which literally mean “black bile.” The term melancholia has mostly fallen out of use in modern psychiatry and psychology, though it is sometimes still described with admiration as a deep sense of loss or existential grief that motivates artists.”

Anosognosia can be considered a lack of insight into one’s own state of mental health. It typically means an individual does not realize they have a mental health issue or is unaware of its extent.

For example, a person may experience delusions and not realize they are delusions but instead believe them to be real.

This condition differs from denial. A person in denial is often consciously aware of a fact but refuses to accept it.

Chronic inflammation has been shown to increase the risk of depression, especially in women.

What can you do to reduce the risk of chronic inflammation?

1. Cut back or eliminate inflammatory foods including red meat and anything with trans fats, such as margarine, corn oil, deep fried foods and most processed foods 🥩🍟
3. Make time to exercise - 30 to 45 minutes of aerobic exercise and 10 to 25 minutes of weight or resistance training at least four to five times per week 🏋🏾‍♀️ 🏃🏾‍♀️
5. Lose weight - People who are overweight have more inflammation. Losing weight may decrease inflammation 💁🏾‍♀️
6. Manage stress - Chronic stress contributes to inflammation. Use meditation, yoga, biofeedback, guided imagery or some other method to manage stress throughout the day 🧘🏾‍♀️

We may not be able to change many of the stressful situations we encounter in life, but we can change our response and perception by learning to manage stress better.

Anxiety tips over from healthy to unhealthy when it disrupts your life.

1. Physical Symptoms 😖

If your body regularly reacts to everyday stressors the way a caveman would if a lion chased him, your anxiety is no longer healthy.

2. Cognitive Symptoms 🧠

If you can’t fall asleep or wake up repeatedly during the night, because you can’t stop thinking about things that stress you out, anxiousness is ruling over you.

3. Procrastination and Avoidance 🙅🏾‍♀️

We all put off starting unpleasant or difficult tasks sometimes, but when you spend more time avoiding than doing, it may be time to seek outside help.

4. Overthinking and Constant Worrying 😟

If worrying keeps you from functioning or you’re overthinking so much that you can’t focus on important work or sleep at night, you may have an anxiety problem.

5. Feeling Agitated and Restless 😬

Did you know that anxiety can also disguise itself as anger? And if you’re always moving, you don’t have time to ruminate on anxious thoughts. But neither response is healthy or helpful in the long term.

A positive affirmation for boundary setting ✨
You have the power to articulate your expectations. Do not expect people to guess what you need – you are strong enough to ask 💪🏾
