My name is Katie Cullen and I am a DTI certified full spectrum doula. When I had my daughter, I never imagined how empowering that experience would be.

A doula is someone who is trained to assist a person during pregnancy, childbirth and support families after a baby is born. Since then, my heart has been called to birth work and my goal is to help educate and emotionally and physically support birthing people to have the birth that they wish to have. You can count on me to be supportive, empathetic, educational, non-judgmental and most importantly I will be there for you and your partner with love and respect. Whether you’re having a home birth, hospital birth, or birthing center birth, I will be there cheering you on. COVID: Your health and safety are my top priority. I have received both doses of the vaccine and will continue to follow the CDC guidelines by wearing a mask, washing my hands often, maintaining social distancing, and offering my services virtually.

....it started out ok and got weirder from there. So I was at my longest ever birth this week and I'm still recovering. This is what happens when you try to take pics while leaving and you have a half functioning brain. My thoughts "is this ok? Maybe I should take it over here but you can't see the sign. What about a close up? I think that was too close. Ok I give up."

Another great day for a Childbirth Ed Class! These couples were so fun to spend the day with. We talked all about physiological birth, normal reactions to labor, medical interventions, cesareans and more! They had great questions and left with knowledge to help them create their birth plan and questions to take to their providers. What questions do you have about birth?

I'm so thankful to work with a wonderful and supportive team of doulas so that I can take time away with my family to recharge! We spent our spring break at Disney and had so much fun - from meeting storm troopers to piloting the millennium falcon, eating mickey shaped beignets and pretzels to watching the nightly fireworks. Our feet were tired but the memories will last forever. Where have you traveled recently? How do you pour back into yourself?

What a great group of parents to be! Taught a Childbirth Ed class today and had so much fun talking about physiological birth, what to expect in the different stages of labor, interventions, postpartum and an intro to breast/bodyfeeding.

What surprised you about labor and birth? I love teaching and talking about all things pregnancy, birth and postpartum so ask me how you can join my next class!

So lucky to support a second time mom today! She was so amazed at how much faster things went this time around. It was so beautiful to witness her strength and power.

Another successful day of lobbying! Today was focused specifically on doula care and allowing our services to be covered through Medicaid. I met with 3 representatives and we had some great conversations about what we do, how we improve birth outcomes and how our services fiscally save the state money (lower risk of cesareans, lower risk of preterm birth and many more). Thanks so much to and for hosting and organizing the day!

Successful day of lobbying in support of Texas midwives! Thanks to for putting this day together. It's inspiring and refreshing to come together with fellow birthworkers and support a common goal that would help midwives provide life saving support to the community. Help support the passing of SB 1102 by advocating to your representatives.
