Beautiful Bounty of skullcap and shepherd's purse.
This skullcap will be tinctured fresh for maximum potency and, since fresh shepherd's purse was used for today's tincture making demo, this bunch will be dried.
Check out the vibrant hearts captured in a jar💚

Do you need a little blue vervain in your life?
Blue vervain is for the anxious perfectionist who doesn't stop.
Being a cooling herb, its best suited for those with a warmer constitution (perhaps a hot temper and easily frustrated).
Vervain can help slow those anxious, spiraling thoughts, and relax the tension held in the neck and shoulders allowing you to breathe and cool down.
If this resonates with you, come see me at the Quadra Market this Saturday at 12:30 for a free tincture making demo and a bundle of vervain- then go home and take care of yourself!

(Limited quantities of vervain- message me if you'd like me to put some aside)

A few shots from my Yoga with Plants 2- day camp:

-Our plantain study
-Making candied flowers using borage and pansy
-Picking lavender flowers to add to our spearmint, hibiscus sun tea.

We also had a yoga session each day, bringing aromatic plants in for our breathwork and relaxation, as well as incorporated mindful moments while out among the plants on our forest walk.

Set up at the Quadra Market with a COOL DOWN STATION by DONATION and a fresh batch of spiced ELDERBERRY SYRUP.
Get it in time for back to school and cold & flu season.
Here today and the next 2 Saturdays.

I'd like to say Chip was just stopping to smell the flowers but he was helping with a little 'weeding.'😉

I am so relieved that, after being away for 2 weeks, I didn't miss the milky oat stage!

Harvesting and processing your oats:

1. Test your oat pods by squeezing them. If a milky substance oozes out, it is time!
2. Collect the oat pods by sliding your hand up the stalk and enjoy the ease at which they pop off into your hand.
3. If tincturing, use a high proof alcohol and tincture fresh, or, you can dry for tea, although those nervous system restorative properties are much stronger in the fresh plant.
4. Once the milky oats are collected, chop the rest of the plant and dry for a mineral rich moistening tea (known as oatstraw).

I'll post a video of me stripping the oats...check it out with sound on!

Crafting in the Okanagan.
My sister harvested and froze some wild elderberries to have ready for me when I came to visit.
I picked through, removing the stems and random leaves, etc before making a syrup using local okanagan honey as well!
For a very limited time, I have some elderberry syrup available for sale in the area before I head home. $25/jar with brandy ($20 plain)

I also gathered and processed some beautiful goldenrod into a tincture that will be made into an allergy blend and scored some more nettle seeds!
Look at those seed laden nettles swaying in the wind! It was a flowy, sketchy dance to gather those seeds!

Red clover; loved by pollinators and kids of all ages alike for it's sweet nectar.
Enjoy a nibble in the sun-warmed field or bring home to sprinkle on salads or rice, dry for a light, refreshing, vitamin and mineral rich tea or make into gentle, yet potent, medicine.
Red clover supports skin health through its ability to 'cleanse' the blood and support lymph flow. It can be helpful for inflammatory skin issues such as eczema and psoriasis taken internally.
Containing isoflavones, which are similar to estrogen in structure, red clover is an ally to women during times of hormone fluctuations- helping to balance the hormones and therefore ease some menopausal symptoms as well as promote fertility in those trying to conceive!

Feverfew vs Chamomile

Some get confused on ID with these 2 plants, but seeing them side by side, the differences are quite noticeable!

FEVERFEW
ID: lobed leaves, growing alternately on the branching stems. Yellow centre of flower is flat or even slightly convex, surrounded by layers of white petals.

PROPERTIES: very bitter and cooling. Helpful to lower fevers and, taken regularly, reduces frequency of migraines. Eating a fresh leaf in a sandwich or on a piece of bread daily is greatly effective in migraine prevention!

CHAMOMILE
ID: finely divided leaves growing alternately. A single layer of white petals surrounds the convex, sweet smelling, yellow centre of the flower. Mildly sweet with bitter properties when steeped longer.

PROPERTIES: soothes upset stomaches and digestive spasms. Calming, soothes irrititability, supports sleep.

*both these plants have more depth in their properties than what is listed. This is a basic overview
