Continuing with ‘what makes us sick’.  A brief reasoning on what the differences between organic foods and non-organic foods are. Basically it’s the differences in their farming.

🥦Organic foods, what are they?  In short organic foods (vegetables, fruits, grain, meat, milk, eggs etc.) are produced without:

🌽GMO (genetically modified organisms)
💊No routine antibiotics
🚜 Artificial pesticides and fertilizers
💪🏻Growth hormones
❌Irradiation or ionising radiation (a way food preservation with radiation energy)

Taking one pesticide in particular, Glyphosate.  Glyphosate is known to bind to minerals in the soil, in turn will produce a product devoid of minerals.

Glyphosate:

1.may inhibit liver detoxification.  Evidence links Glyphosate highly to fatty liver disease.

2. may kill off your good gut bacteria.  A decline in gut bacteria can be beginnings of a whole myriad of health issues.  From hormonal to immune.  From IBS to anxiety.

3. has been shown to be carcinogenic, in particular non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma

4. has also been linked to problems with

Kidneys
Breast
Intestinal and stomach
Skin
Pancreatic
Thyroid

Also linked to
Reduction in body’s master antioxidant Glutathione
A decrease in Vitamin D activity
DNA mutations
Mitochondrial function
Heart arrhythmia
Fertility reduction

Good news is it can be detoxed out but the best way is to avoid altogether.  In short organic foods contain a higher nutrient content and work in harmony with the body, not against it.

Before I took charge of my health, I had been in a state of dis-ease since I was 3, with my list of ailments and illnesses gradually building through to my 20’s; from Asthma to PCOS. My clients too come to me with an ailment/an illness/a state of dis-ease, which they’ve had for some years and even had grumblings for many years previous. By the time I see some clients it has taken decades for their health to have reached it’s current state. I, like a lot of natural health practitioners, am generally the last resort, so my clients will come to me with their diagnosis and pharmaceutical list but their health isn’t improving and no idea why their health is the way it is. To give a little insight, here are some examples of what can make us sick. Over the coming days/weeks ill take a few and delve a little deeper.

What have you done for you today? One of the biggest dis-services we can do is to ourselves. Age old explanation; when on a plane, what are you told about the oxygen masks? Put yours on first. Unfortunately, we have been programmed since early childhood that putting us first isn’t a good thing to do. Well I beg to differ! I remember being young and seeing my mum’s friends feeding their children a cooked meal and then watching them eat biscuits. Self sabotage all the way. Why are we afraid to be kind to ourselves; think of ourselves as equally as important as others around us? If you’re a parent, what is this behaviour teaching your child? Do this teach them that they are more important than you or does it teach them to repeat the pattern later on and no it may not come up as a biscuit scenario. So I take this back to health. What are YOU doing to support your health today? Is it journaling, is it gratitude, is it choosing to enjoy a bath over attending the washing up, is it choosing to cook yourself a beautiful lunch over reaching for the biscuits!? Is it going to the gym? For me, I’ve fasted, gone out in nature about to cook myself a beautiful lunch.

Summer Skin
Did you know there is research to suggest that some toxic chemicals in sunscreens are able to make their way into the blood stream? Amongst other things, these chemicals are found to be hormone disruptive. Also, these sunscreens block the production of Vitamin D. Vitamin D is needed for our 🦠 immune system and bone health 🦴. So what do we do on days like today?

☀️Bare skin exposure for 10-20mins daily.

👚Using clothing to protect yourself.

🧴Natural sunscreens. Maybe even trying to make one yourself?!? 🌱

I haven’t been online for a while. This lockdown for me has been all consuming! Working with my current clients fully online together with home-schooling 4 children has left me with very little time besides. But after 6 weeks we/I’ve found our groove.

Today, taking a break from learning about the Saxons, problem solving, learning continents and oceans and painting I thought I would take a brief time to chat a little about weight-loss. Weight-loss is so misunderstood. Going by the narrative its about energy in and energy out but it can be so much more than just calorie counting. Out of all my weight-loss clients, not one is about calorie counting and generally I am adding more food in!

What are the reasons for unexplained weight gain? Unexplained weight gain can purely be a symptom of poor gut health, adrenal dysfunction, thyroid issues, s*x hormone issues, inflammation, toxicity levels…… If you’ve been trying to loose weight by reducing what you eat and exercising to no avail, don’t give up; one of the above may apply to you. If you feel you need help and have no idea where to turn, get in touch ☺

How is everyone this week?

I’ve been mixed this week! My business has taken a battering! 1. Due to the new way of working - digitally and not being able to get out and talk with people face to face but 2. Homeschooling!! I have 4 school age children; 2 primary and 2 high school. We’ve been getting out daily for a decent dog walk, choosing different routes each day so far; supporting our immune and mental health. Then I’ve been flitting been different ages trying to ‘help’ them!! Which really hasn’t left time for me and my business and I so want to be able to support those out there. Is there anything I can help with? Anything you’d like to know?? Anymore immune related topics or shall we just talk about cake? Shall I post cake recipes to bake(healthy obviously!!)?!? 🍰

If you are already a client; I would like you know I am still giving you the utmost attention!

But what have I taken from this week? I have been so appreciative that sun is shining! ☀️ I have loved the smell of my line-dried washing. 👚I have noted how differently all my kids work (academically). I have learned what a fronted adverbial is; from a primary school child! I still don’t understand how I managed to get a gcse in maths. I have noted how resilient my kids are. Above all no one has whinged that their ‘teacher’ hasn’t a clue what she’s doing. They’ve told me they’ve enjoyed their week! Here’s to all you parents juggling the same!!

We’ve done it though – week one of quarantine. Week one of working from home. Week one of home-schooling. Week one of god knows how many….

Sending all the love and the healthy cake x

🌈 Okay, I wanted to find the light in the gloom for you! - heres my tips for working from home!

👗 First off - get dressed. It may seem like a lovely idea to not get dressed but you’ll feel so much better dressing as if you’re off to work! 👔

⏰ Keep to a routine - humans are creatures of habit!

🚌 Use your morning commute time! So if you spent an hour commuting, use that hour wisely. Get out for a walk/do some yoga/a few stretches/make some time to make a lovely nutritious breakfast - enjoy it with your family or partner. Of even just sit and enjoy a nice cuppa and few pages of a book. Don’t just grab a coffee and start work! ☀️

🍵 If you took coffee breaks before; take them now! Make a tea and move to a different room/go outside/check in on the kids!

🍴 Take a lunch break - away from your screen, away from your phone - sit with your family and enjoy the time. Maybe you’d like to book in a video slot with me! 😉

📻 Turn off the tv/radio! We don’t need constant hits from the media giving us the doom and gloom - just check in once a day so you know whats going on. Generally I have the radio going all day - nope, not now!

In a time when we feel we are having no control - find the things you can control! My go to is of course; whats on your plate! Enjoy what you’re cooking!

🚌 Use you commute home time again - cook a lovely evening meal, spend some time with kids, go for another walk, some meditation perhaps.🧘🏼‍♀️

🎄 And as I saw this week: lets pretend its Christmas! Were used to hunkering down for that!

Lastly - find the happy news!

All negative feels have an impact on our health; lets try and lessen that!!

Did you know I do online appointments as well in person??

I’ve been asked this a lot recently especially considering current climates!! So yes I do online appointments! Whether for self isolating reasons, living too far away (international or Uk). I can still ‘see’ you! 👍🏻👍🏻

Continuing on from my previous post. Specific nutrients and foods to consider to support the immune system are:

🥦Vitamin C: good choices would be green veg, peppers, berries, citrus fruits and kiwis

🥕Vitamin A: red, orange and yellow plant foods and decent high fat animal foods; eg eggs, butter and liver

🐟Vitamin D: the sun vitamin. Currently the time of yes doesn’t allow us to get it from the sun. Some foods choices could be oily fish, eggs and mushrooms

🍗Selenium: good choices are Brazil nuts, poultry and sunflower seeds

🥩Zinc: good sources include, pumpkin seeds, chickpeas and lentils and good quality meat

🧄Green tea, mushrooms, garlic and ginger are all specific foods supporting the immune system

I’d you’d like to more in detail, please get in touch.

What affects our immune system?!

Did you know that stress, fear and panic all affect our immunity, all lower our immunity??!! In a time that we may need to boost our immunity and not have it knocked; let’s not stress about what we can’t control and enjoy ways that we can. Ways YOU can support YOUR immunity are:

1. ☀️ getting outside in the fresh air; enjoy a walk in the woods or the beach, sit outside and enjoy a cup of tea (herbal!!)

2. 🌈Eating the rainbow; not skittles, the natural kind!! Veggies and fruits. Fruit and veg contain an array of anti-inflammatory anti-oxidants as well as specific vitamins to support your immune system.

3. 🐜Looking after those gut bugs: your microbiomme. Over 70% of the immune system resides in your gut, needless to say it’s important to look after these guys! Eating fermented foods will support them. Fruits and veggies will help feed them!

In a separate post I’ll post nutrition specifics!
