What is a Cryptic Pregnancy?

A Cryptic Pregnancy is characterized by the fact that the pregnancy can not be, for what I've come to call a "perfect storm"of reasons, medically diagnosed. Some of the main medical reasons for this are the following: Negative lab test; too low production of HCG, also known as "the pregnancy hormone" for a lab to consider a "viable pregnancy." Negative sonogram; An unclear picture or inability to spot a baby in a sonogram. Defensive medicine; In this case, defensive medicine is a refusal of the medical professionals and/or facility to diagnose the pregnancy due to mainly an absence of the medically "appropriate" amount of HCG in a woman's blood. Defensive medicine is characterized by the fact if anything should go awry and a medical professional and/or a medical facility were to be sued by the mother, in court, "too low" HCG and an unclear sonogram may not look good for them. In some cases I have come across, a pregnancy may be spotted and recorded in the medical records, but because of the practice of defensive medicine, the medical professional themselves will refuse to attend to the woman as if she is pregnant. For some cryptic pregnancies, extended gestation (10+ months) goes hand in hand with the cryptic pregnancy. In the six years since I had my cryptic pregnancies and have been working with women experiencing cryptic pregnancies and/or extended gestation, I have seen even medically documented pregnancies go up to about 18 months. Approximately 1 in 450 women experience a cryptic pregnancy. Some of these women are not aware that they are pregnant for part of the pregnancy or even the entire pregnancy. Some women are very aware of their cryptic pregnancy. I, was one of the latter women, twice. My first cryptic baby was "cryptic" for the first three months and partly "cryptic" for the rest of the pregnancy. I gave birth to her at 44+ weeks in May of 2014. My second cryptic baby was "cryptic" for at least five months and partly "cryptic" for the rest of the pregnancy. I gave birth to her in August of 2015 at 52+ weeks. About Me ​ My name is Anshin Kelly. I am a wife and a mother of four healthy children. I am also an alternative, intuitive healer and a traditional midwife. All of my children were born naturally and three of them were freebirth or unassisted births; in which there was no medical professional or midwife at their births. Only my husband was present for two of them and one of them he and a few family members. All children were healthy at birth and beyond. I have successfully breastfed all four of my children and did most of my own prenatal care for all four pregnancies. I have been practicing alternative and energy medicine for ten years. I began my journey in the birth arts seven years ago when I became pregnant with my first baby. In those years I have worked with three incredible midwives in a patient as well as mentorship capacity, and now hundreds of women from all over the world; in person, online, over phone and video chat, on their birth journeys. Recently I began practicing as a traditional midwife in a professional capacity. I have worked with women and their cryptic pregnancy experiences for around four+ years. In that time I have accumulated knowledge and experience in this realm through my hands on/consulting work. My learning and practice in this area and all areas of health and birth are never done, but I feel ready to, in an intuitive and practical way expand my care of women and cryptic pregnancies with what I have deeply learned, observed and experienced directly over the last four+ years. We very rarely talk in absolutes or generalities here, but, neither are we here to overlook health issues in order to conform to a mother's demands and pre-decided expectations.
