Meet the Expert:
David Feifel, MD

Dr. David Feifel earned a Bachelor of Science, Master’s Degree, MD, and a PhD(Neurobiology) from the University of Toronto, Canada.

After completing an internship in Internal Medicine, Dr. Feifel completed a Psychiatry residency at the University of California, San Diego, serving as outpatient Chief Resident in his final year.
He was then recruited to join UCSD’s School of Medicine as a faculty member and rose to rank of full Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and in the Neuroscience graduate program.

At UCSD Dr. Feifel was Director of the Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Program, was the founder and Director of the UCSD Adult ADHD program, and created the Department of Psychiatry’s Center for Advanced Treatment where he introduced several novel treatments such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Ketamine Therapy. He was one of the first providers in the country to utilize these treatments.

Dr. Erin Amato, MD, is the Medical Director of Montana Psychiatry & Brain Health Center in Billings and Bozeman, Montana. She is double Board certified in general and child and adult psychiatry. She has been administering ketamine in her practice since 2014 and has overseen the administration of over 10,000 ketamine and esketamine treatments since that time. She has completed training in ketamine and psychedelic medicine through the Psychedelic Research and Training Institute (PRATI). Her practice is focused on breakthrough treatments in mental health for treatment-resistant depression and also includes the use of TMS. She has been a member of the Clinical TMS Society since 2015 and was recently selected to be a member of the Outreach Committee. She is on faculty for the Integrative Psychiatry Institute (IPI) Fellowship and the Online Ketamine Medical Provider Training. She is also on faculty for The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M) and is Board certified in anti-aging and regenerative medicine. Dr. Amato is committed to raising public awareness about ketamine, TMS, psychedelics, and other innovative psychiatric treatments and has appeared on CBS, Fox, and NBC news affiliates providing information about these and other topics.

This speaker highlight features the following session presented by Jason Wallach, PhD.

Jason Wallach teaches courses in Laboratory Biomethods, Pharmacology and Toxicology Laboratory Techniques, Psychopharmacology, Pathology, Simulated Physiology Labs, and Toxicology. Wallach also has an appointment to the Substance Use Disorders Institute where he is interested in medical cannabis and curriculum development or substance use disorder education. Wallach’s research focuses on the analytical and pharmacological characterizations of psychoactive drugs focusing on synthetic psychoactive drugs (SPDs) and “legal highs."

Wallach also conducts research in drug development for several therapeutic areas including neuropathic pain, neurodegenerative disease, depression, and cancer. This work includes investigations of structure activity relationships, drug tolerability, target selectivity and multi-target drug design, and biased ligand development.
