Our Story

OUR JOURNEY OF IUI/IVF

My name is Ashley Carnes, 26, married to the love of my life, Gene Carnes, 41, since March, 26 2019. We have known each other for about 4 years now.

A little background on us individually, I’m not sure how he made it this long, but my husband had his first surgery of his life last summer on his elbow (only because I finally made him to go to the DR). He avoids that place at all costs. He is blessed to raise two boys from birth as his own. They are almost 15 and 19 and they are our world. Our life definitely wouldn't be the same without them. He does not and never had any biological kids of his own nor has he ever pursued answers why or any type of treatment.

Me on the other hand, at 17 I started having irregular periods. I would have one for 3 weeks non-stop then go to not having one for months at a time. With my mothers history of being diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer at age 26 I wanted to be extra cautious. I started going to a local gynecologist about my issues I was experiencing and was told everything was fine for a couple years. I later grew to wanting to start a family so went back and was referred to an endocrinologist/IVF clinic in Springfield, IL, about two hours away and diagnosed with Dysmenorrhea (irregular/heavy periods, uterine fibroids and cramps) and PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) A hormonal imbalance that affects 1 in every 8 women and is the underlying cause of infertility and causes cysts on ovaries and does not allow you release eggs. I had two ovarian surgeries and attempted 6 rounds of fertility medicine (Clomid/Femara/Ovadril) with no success.
