Recently in British Columbia, seniors gathered for a meaningful and uplifting session organized by LEAD Disability Inclusive Society BC.

The Seniors Program continues to create a safe and welcoming space where seniors across Surrey can come together, connect, and share their lived experiences.

The discussions were both insightful and empowering, focusing on key aspects of healthy aging, including staying physically active, keeping the mind engaged, and prioritizing mental and emotional wellbeing.

Participants exchanged personal stories, practical tips, and encouragement, reminding one another that aging can be a journey filled with purpose, strength, and community.

Starting a new life in Canada comes with many opportunities, but it can also come with real challenges. For many newcomers, navigating the job market, understanding employer expectations, and building professional networks can feel overwhelming. As a result, some spend years searching for stable employment without success.

Through the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy Program, our participants found a turning point in their journey. They gained hands-on training, career guidance, resume and interview support, and the confidence to present their skills effectively in the Canadian workplace.

The transformation has been inspiring. Individuals who once faced long-term unemployment are now working in roles that match their talents and career goals. They are not only employed—they are building meaningful careers and contributing to their communities.

This program continues to change lives by turning uncertainty into opportunity and ambition into achievement.

Being a newcomer to Canada can be very challenging, especially when you do not know how to apply for jobs or understand the job market. Many immigrants struggle for years to find employment after arriving in Canada.

Our graduates from the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy program have shared powerful stories about their journeys. Several of them were unemployed for years after coming to Canada. However, after completing the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy program, they gained the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to secure jobs.

Today, each of them has successfully found employment that has helped shape and build their careers.

The program has not only opened doors to job opportunities but has also given them hope and direction for a brighter future in Canada.
