What is sleep?
Let's begin with basics.
We all know sleep is when we put our kids to bed, we go to bed sleep and wake up again right?
Let's look further.
Sleep is a natural state of rest in which the body and mind can rejuvenate and repair. It is a complex biological process that involves various stages, including light sleep, deep sleep, and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. During sleep, the brain consolidates memories and learning, regulates hormones, and strengthens the immune system. Sleep is essential for good health and well-being, and chronic sleep deprivation can lead to a range of physical and mental health problems.
Why do we need sleep?
We need sleep for many reasons: it helps us feel rested and refreshed; it allows our bodies to repair themselves; it helps our brains consolidate memories and learn new things; it regulates our hormones; it strengthens our immune systems; and it improves our overall quality of life. Without enough sleep, we may experience fatigue, irritability, difficulty concentrating, memory problems, poor decision-making skills, increased risk of accidents or injuries, weakened immune function, weight gain or obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus type 2, anxiety disorders or depression
