April is Bowel Cancer awareness month š encouraging early diagnosis, and promoting bowel screening.
Knowing the symptoms is important to help spot bowel cancer early. The earlier that itās found, the more treatable itās likely to be.
Approximately 1 in 3 people do not complete their bowel cancer screening. The home-testing kit, known as the faecal immunochemical test (FIT) checks for blood in a small stool sample, which can be a sign of bowel cancer. This is offered to people aged 50 to 74 who are registered with a GP and you'll automatically receive this through the post every 2 years.
You can call the bowel cancer screening helpline on 0800 707 6060 if you're aged 75 or over to ask for the test every 2 years or if you think youāre eligible for bowel cancer screening but have not been invited or received your test kit.
