Psoriatic Princess Thoughts from someone that has been fighting Chronic Illness/Pain for over 36 years.

13/02/2025

My leg started hurting out of nowhere. Dr Burhan thought I had a broken ankle. The pain is mainly in my shin but it is also in my ankle and knee. X-Rays showed my ankle is fine, but my knee is bone on bone, no cartilage at all. So a knee replacement is coming at some point. But as long as I am ok, we are putting it off as long as possible. After a month of not being able to walk without help of crutches or a walker, I am finally able to walk very short distances. So once again, we start trying to build up strength and hope I can walk un-aided eventually.

Latest medical update, skip if you don’t want to hear about health stuff lol.

New thyroid doctor, my first appointment was yesterday. Took a day to process, it was a lot of information. This doctor says I may have Graves’ disease. The first doctor that told me in the hospital I had a thyroid problem said it may be that but it hadn’t been mentioned since.

So I am on my next adventure of blood work, biopsies, some radioactive test and also a sleep study so I may end up with a cpap machine. If these things end up being a reality and I respond well to treatment it could change my life for the better. So I am still hopeful. Not thrilled to possibly have another disease to add to my list but hopeful it will all work out 😊♥️

Health History

Trying to go in chronological order with what I remember, I am horrible with dates so I may be off on some things. And I know I am missing some stuff or it seems small enough to not matter.

Childhood

3rd Grade 1983 Developed an allergy to penicillin

3rd Grade 1983 Was diagnosed with Psoriasis on my scalp

3rd Grade 1983 Woke up one day and couldn't walk or put any weight at all on my left hip. After many different doctors, x-rays, exams, and a psychiatrist visit (she said the pain was because my momm and I were too close), my momm took me to a chiropractor that told us my lower spine twists a little which set my hips off center and also the ball in the joint was a little too small so it "popped out". It is the reason I could never wear high heels or get a stick shift car.

3rd Grade 1983 I was out of school for about 3 months before the chiropractor got it to where I could walk and go back to school. During those 3 months my parents had to help me turn over in bed, get to the bathroom and get in and out of the bathtub. But I sure did get fast on crutches. Would race with my Granny when she was on crutches because of a broken foot.

High School 1990ish. Started having pain in my right knee. It looked like half a baseball was under the skin. I had 2 MRI's because they did the wrong part of my knee the first time, the doctor told me "You have something called Psoriatic Arthritis, you have it because you have Psoriasis, learn to live with it.

I continued going to the chiropractor for my hip, but then they changed their treatment from using their hands for adjustments, to the rubber tipped tool. It caused me a lot of pain on my back and neck to the point where I could barely turn my neck or lift my leg. They said it would take some time to adjust but I never did so I stopped going and just dealt with the pain and stiffness.

1990ish, I had abnormal cells on a pap smear and had to have my cervix biopsied. The doctor looked like Bull from Night Court and he was always making jokes, even when doing the biopsy.

Because of the result being "pre-cancerous" they removed some cells by freezing my cervix.

As and young adult, joint by joint started being effected by the arthritis.

Adulthood

As an adult my psoriasis had gotten much worse. It has been so bad it cracked and bleed. Head, arms, legs, back, stomach, face. It has varied from 80% coverage, 1/8 inch thick, to just red dots.

2010s I had a stomach issue that made me miss so much, like my sons footballs games. Went to the ER many times but they never figured out what it was other than that there was a virus.

Migraines. A life long battle

Low Iron. Had to have an endoscopy and colonoscopy to rule out internal bleeding.

Kidney Stones. For a year I seemed to have one on everyone's birthdays lol

Late 2010's. Had my left hip replaced. One of the best things I have ever had done.

2020: Large Kidney stone/Kidney Infection/Bladder Infection/Kidney Failure. Went to hospital with high heart rate. They were about to send me home after finding nothing when my husband made them go check again and they found a 9mm kidney stone on the CT scan they did for my heart. They put a stent in my kidney and put me on antibiotics for the infection and sent me home until surgery. I started feeling sick about a week later, went back to the ER and they found out I was in kidney failure and hours away from death. So I was admitted again and they did the surgery to get the stone out. The doctor told my husband that they had a hard time and had to "throw the urology handbook at it"

2020- Nerve pain on my left hip/lower back. Not sciatica they don't think. Going to another specialist one day to see if it can be helped.

April 2021- heart rate was up to 160 so I had my son take me in to the ER once again. They admitted me even though I had to sleep in the ER that night. Finally one doctor found out it was my Thyroid going crazy. I am on meds and seeing a specialist.

2019-May 2021 I could not walk any distance at all without being exhausted and feeling my heart pounding. Turns out that was all my thyroid out of control. As soon as I started on my new medicines I was suddenly able to walk through stores. I was able to make it to California with my family to see my Granny :)
