We had one of our pigs butchered on Friday. What does that mean? Time to make lard! I’ve rendered most of the leaf lard now, and will be moving on to the rest of the fat this week.

Lard is pretty amazing! It’s shelf stable for an essentially infinite amount of time. Once rendered, it has no taste or smell, making it perfect for cooking, frying and even body lotions and soaps! Did you know it can even be substituted one for one for butter in baking!?!

Once I get all the lard rendered, I’ll be moving onto the beef fat and making tallow. Watch this space for homemade, chemical free, all natural lotions, scrubs and soaps.

Habits make us who we are. I say this to my clients all the time. In order to be healthier, fitter, stronger, we need to make changes to our daily habits. And while I am 100% in favour of goal setting and having ambitious plans for the future, ultimately for most people, we unfortunately fall short of reaching the goals or staying the course, and inevitably fall back to our habits.

But don’t fret, because all is not lost. Start small and think of one daily habit you can make healthier starting today:
- start each morning by writing down 5 things you’re grateful for
-take sugar out of your morning coffee
- take the stairs at work instead of the elevator
- park further away at the grocery store to get more steps in
- incorporate a 5 mins walk into your day and slowly add mins as the weeks progress
- focus on eating more protein in your meals
- spend 10% less time on social media this week

The list of small changes is really endless. Start with one, do it for 3-4 weeks, then add another. These healthier habits over time will compound into significant positive mental and physical health improvements.

What habit are your going to take on this week?

The cheeseburger casserole from Maria Emmerich’s sugar free kids is quickly becoming one of my favs, and something I have prepared in the fridge all the time. It’s delicious hot or cold, and is packed full of protein and fat.

Always being prepared, by having nutrient dense food ready to grab, will keep those cravings under control and ensure you can kick sugar to the curb once and for all!!

As carnivore month comes to a close in a few short days, I reflect back on how great the month has been for my girls and I. We are all feeling like our best selves, and my girls behavior has been stellar.

Moving into February I plan to stay fairly strict carnivore, adding the occasional fruit or veg into my diet. I spent many years keto and know which veg I can eat and which ones my body doesn’t like. I’m also planning on incorporating once a week 48 hour fasting. Fasting, if done properly, is SO good for your body as it encourages your body to eat all its damaged cells.

Are you happy with how carnivore month went for you?

I’m sorry I haven’t kept up with daily posting. Life has gotten busy and I struggle to keep up with two social media accounts, be a full time farmer and homeschool my girls. But rest assured, we’re all still going strong with carnivore!

Bacon and eggs with a glass of raw cream or full cream milk is basically our standard breakfast. Dinner has been a varieties of meat. Although last night I made cheeseburger casserole (from Maria Emmerich’s cookbook “sugar free kids”). It is not a strict carnivore recipe, as it uses a small amount of sugar free ketchup, mayo and mustard, but at around 3 carbs a serve it was a nice change up, especially for my girls.

They are loving how good they feel doing carnivore.

How’s your month going?

Sorry I’ve been MIA for a few days. Life has gotten busy! But rest assured, carnivore is still going strong.

I’m 2 full weeks in now and feeling really good.
My energy levels are high.
My inflammation is low, and at times, non existent.
My muscles are recovering much quicker from a hard days work.
My mood is more stable.
My sleep is better.

It feels goos to feel good.
