Today wraps up my nursing students OB clinicals and also marks the end of Black Maternal Health Week 2025!

Remember when we were baby nursing students and we would go to post conference and share all of our experiences? Today’s post conference topic includes LISTENING TO BLACK WOMEN.

-Black Maternal Health Week is not just a week, it’s a movement and a chance to bring more light to what is happening in our communities and around the world and how we can support each other in this fight.

-while the overall maternal mortality rate is decreasing, the risk to Black women continues to grow.

-80%+ of maternal deaths are preventable.

-structural racism IS the root cause.

Let’s be better, and raise better humans, better nurses, better physicians, better advocates. We need to start bringing awareness and checking biases EARLY. What is something else you would share with them?

That being said, make sure you see your dentist during pregnancy! 🦷🪥🤰🏽

And NO DENTIST should be turning you away due to pregnancy. If they do- please take your business elsewhere. I had a patient tell me this last week and I was IRATE.

I recently learned the link between gum disease and preeclampsia and I was shook yet it makes perfect sense! I love being a life long learner.

2024, what a year! 47 babies!
1 VBAC. 1 abruption. 1 shoulder dystopia. 19 unmedicated births. 28 intact perineums.
Some highs and some lows. Thankful for all of my beautiful patients and their life stories and the paths that brought them to me! Somehow, my career (catching babies) was the best part of my year but also my job was the most stressful part of my year. Cheers to 2025 being better in all aspects!

The word for 2025 is BLOOM. I want to thrive and bloom wherever I am planted in all areas of my life. 🪷🪻🌸

I would have to say, traveling across the world and talking to women and girls about their bodies looks good on me. This was my favorite part. I could’ve spent hours in there with these ladies! They empower me.

Where should I go next? Ethiopia? Tanzania? Guatemala? 👀

I find hope in my purpose, despite presidential and senate election results. I will continue to learn and advocate for women all around the country. The fight is still the fight.

My ask is that of you too. Please continue to fight for women’s rights. Donate or support your local or national abortion funds such as or

Meet and write your governor. Make phone calls. Ask for more education.

WE do this work, and we should be allowed to do this work. 🤍

Stood in line for 2 hours before work last night to vote! 💚🩷

Reproductive rights are on the line.

My ancestors fought for this privilege.

And for those two reasons alone, I was happy to do my part.

Happy National Midwifery Week to all the midwives and midwives to be!!! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- midwives make the world go round. Thankful for the calling.

Grateful for all the midwives who came before me and who have lead me. Grateful for my midwife friends who inspire me! Grateful for my patients and their beautiful stories. Grateful for each baby I touched on their way into earth.

We have a lot in store for our community of midwives in the upcoming days! I love y’all! 🤍🤍

I have to take a moment to give her flowers. 💐

Stick with me til the end here.

Nichole “Nikki” is a nurse midwife in Virginia who I met virtually in 2020 when I joined ACNMs “Anti Racism in Midwifery Education Task Force”. I was the student leader and she was my faculty support. Now, when Nikki told me I would be the leader, I said the devil is a lie…no I will not lol. I don’t want to. I can’t do that. I was a student midwife, working full time in the hospital as a nurse during the pandemic. I was, in fact, the definition of insane. 🙃 But Nikki saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself. She pushed me to lead. She supported me and poured so SO SO much life into me every month on our meetings. She would text me just to see if I was doing OK or how she could help with the task force or with school.

While on the task force, we created objectives and ideas that later received funding and an official committee within ACNM to expand Black midwives and midwifery programs.

While attending conference this week, we met in person for the first time after 4 years!!! And yall, she STILL pouring into me and speaking life over me! She said “what’s your goal, what’s your ask?….then create it. Do the work. Make the connections. Don’t reinvent the wheel. You can do it and it will happen and I saw it in you from the jump”. I just love her! We all need an auntie midwife like her in our life and I’m so grateful to have finally given her a hug (yes I know, I hugged her willingly lmao IYKYK).

If you’re still here, thank you for reading and I hope you feel inspired to go out there, and do the work your community needs and create your ideal environment in whatever it is that you do. 🤎

Hi! It’s Cheyenne and LaKeshia. We are best friends who are also nurses! Keshia is a travel nurse and Cheyenne is a certified nurse midwife. We have been working in our communities and both traveling the country to provide care to the underserved. We have decided to take another leap and travel to Mumbai, India this November to complete our second nursing mission trip!

We will be completely funding our way to India! However, we are asking for monetary donations, to provide supplies, for the clinics and orphanage that we will be serving. We appreciate your support, prayers, and kind words. Our goal is $3000 but no amount is too small! Last year all of you helped us reach our goal of $5000. We are forever grateful for each of you trusting us and sowing into this endeavor.

LINK IN BIO to donate. 🇮🇳🙏🏽

A little for all of my fellow and who may be struggling today.

In midwifery, we mention that we “answered the call”. Remember why you answered that call. If you are a student midwife or a nursing student, med student, or grad student, remember what called you in and your purpose. Times may get hard but there is a light at the end of the tunnel, although sometimes dimmer than you want it to be. I know sometimes my light gets dim. So passing this along for those who may need a reminder!! 🤍🤍

YOU are capable.
You ARE capable.
You are CAPABLE.
YOU ARE CAPABLE.
