Today, we honor the birth of Rafer Johnson, an Olympic gold medalist, humanitarian, and the visionary founder of Special Olympics Southern California.

Rafer believed in the power of sport to unite, uplift, and transform lives. His dedication to inclusion and dignity for people with intellectual disabilities laid the foundation for a movement that continues to grow and inspire. Because of Rafer, thousands of athletes across Southern California have found confidence, friendship, and purpose both on and off the field.
