This popped up in my memories from a year ago. We all *thought* the pandemic was coming to a close. I had launched my own teaching business a few months prior, so many yogis were coming to take class, and I was about to open Afterglow Studio]. I didn’t have a space yet - these were taken by in my studio apartment, where I taught virtual and private lessons.
Sign the lease, and cue wave number two. 🙃 It created a bump in the road, but still… we made it happen. Really, a lot of YOU made it happen. What a gift it was to practice yoga together, rather than isolated at a screen where sometimes… it’s really hard to feel any type of energy or connection. Is virtual convenient? Sure. Do we really get the same experience out of it? My opinion is no. Energy isn’t virtual. You feel it in the room.
I can’t help but think what Afterglow would look like today if the pandemic wasn’t in the way of things. Maybe our mats would be a little closer. Maybe more people would be able to support their local yoga teachers instead of watching influencer YouTube replays. Is this my impatience and frustration talking? Totally. Everyone has different circumstances. But for something that is a livelihood for me, I am picky… and I want the rooms to be full. I want to see your smiles. Connection is half the reason I do this. A lot of you who follow me on here, we met in a real live studio! Can you believe? 😂
But ALSO, I am really grateful. This picture popped up and reminded me of how far we ALL have come. We were stuck in our houses a year ago. Now we’re not. And though the growth is slow… I’m grateful for the special little studio that has been here for me all year. Hopefully it can continue to be here for you, too ✨
