GenealCymru

GenealCymru GenealCymru is a community aimed at supporting Welsh people in Wales and the diaspora to find and learn about our ancestors.

Our goal is to help develop skills for doing genealogy while also learning about Welsh culture and history. Dai Davies, the founder of GenealCymru, holds a Masters in Anthropology, 2015, and a Bachelor of Arts (honours) in Anthropology with major in Hispanic studies, 2014. Dai’s genealogical work has covered Welsh, English, Canadian, US, Jamaican, and Icelandic records. I grew up in a Welsh/Canadian family listening to stories from my Grampie of his life in Cwmrhydyceirw, Swansea, South Wales, and his desire to reconnect to our lost ancestors. GenealCymru emerged from a personal family history research, built on the foundation of those family stories and combined with my academic training in research, writing, and teaching. Dai created GenealCymru to develop resources for others who hope to find their ancestors and learn about their history. The goal is to represent modern Welsh history online and connect it with the history of the world, bridging the stories of our ancestors with others across the world.
