Lockdown diaries - She was done needing to be understood by anyone but herself. She realized she was the only person she would spend her whole life with and understanding herself was more important than being understood by others.

Lockdown has been further extended. We all long to return to normal, but normal is what led to this. So maybe it’s time to rethink and reevaluate our normal. Stay safe, grounded and healthy❤️❤️

Lockdown diaries - She was done being angry. She realized anger was just a flashlight that showed her what she was most scared of and once it illuminated what she needed to see, she no longer needed to hold on to it.
And, she was done with regrets. She realized if she had known better she would have done better!

The real challenge is not to stay at home during lockdown but to stay fit, sane and safe. So stay safe, stay healthy, mentally, spiritually, emotionally and physically❤️❤️

Stretching is not only good for your body, but also for your mind. When you stretch, you relax and concentrate on the process, your technique, breathing, and sensations. It instantly calms you down and clears your mind of the unnecessary worrying and irritation (thank you lockdown fatigue!)

Tell them and repeat it again and again, how they must love theirs.

Teach them to be proud of themselves and their every little achievement.

Tell them every woman’s body is beautiful
Simply because every woman is unique.
Teach them to be unapologetically themselves. And no one can do that better than them❤️

Lockdown diaries - As I began my practice this morning, the Sun decided to shine her beautiful radiant rays onto me. And I was reminded of words from one of my (not so!!) favorite book Jane Eyre - “Even for me life had its gleams of sunshine” (by Charlotte Brontë)

And I immediately wrote what I felt - I was like the sun,
I knew my place in the world. I would shine again regardless of all the stormy weather.
And I would never adjust my purpose for things that pass.

We may all run into some gray clouds along our journey, and it’s ok. But hold on tight to the sunshine within you.

Insomnia, backaches, restlessness, stress and anxiety are among the side effects people are facing from prolonged lockdown. It’s called home fatigue! So if possible, take a little time out for yourself and stretch away those blues.

Getting my foot to touch my head without using my hands has been a struggle. More because, my foot seems to have a mind and a sense of warped direction of its own. This is just a small start, but a start nevertheless.

Take pride in what you do everyday. Give yourself the acknowledgement for how far you have come on this journey of learning and life.
How far or close are you from seeing the dream come true compared to being stuck in the reality of it never breaking through?

Our spine is an incredible combination of strength and flexibility – of Sthira and Sukha. Strong bones and large muscles give us structure and protect sensitive nerves, while flexible ligaments and tendons allow the spine to move in all different planes.
With regular backbends we can help to protect this wonderful balance by increasing mobility while strengthening the supporting muscles around the skeleton.

They say youth is wasted on the young!! And that is so true. In my younger days I practiced yoga, worked out with absolutely no worries or concern. In that, I did face numerous injuries. As I grew older, the race to perform just dropped away. It was replaced with a deep sense of awareness to the body and breath.
A while back I injured a point on my spine. Which only got aggravated with a fall down the stairs. I avoided back bends for sometime and then realized that’s the area that needs my attention the most. And ever since I have been gently working my way back. Are my backbends where it used to be? No. But I’m certain in time, with love and kindness, I can work my way back. And that’s the beauty of yoga. Teaches you something every single day, only if you are listening🙏🏼

So continuing with the journey and process of healing my back/spine....

Like BKS Iyengar would say - Backbends are not poses meant for expressionism. Backbends are meant to understand the back parts of our bodies. The front body can be seen with the eyes, but the back body can only be felt. That's why I say these are the most advanced postures, where the mind begins to look at the back.

One way is using King Arthur’s Pose and its variations to intensely target quads and hip flexors, making it a great prep for backbends. It’s also adjustable - You can press your hips all the way back against the wall to really target the quads. Or you can lower your hips (like a Low Lunge) if you want to get more into the hip flexors and adductors.
The effectiveness of King Arthur’s Pose stems form the fact that it stretches all of your quadriceps and hip-flexors simultaneously. The technical reason for this is that your knee is flexed and your hip is extended. This means that the posture is stretching your vasti muscles (3 of your 4 quadriceps), your re**us femoris (your 4th quadriceps which is also one of your hip-flexors), and your illiopsoas. If your abdominals are particularly tight, you might also stretch them in this posture.

Excited to share my progress!!!!
How does the impossible become possible?
I don’t really know the answer to that. But I do know that in yoga it happens all the time.
Lolasana is a pose that has always eluded me. I could never get the dynamics. So I stopped trying. While I continued to work on every other aspect.
Then yesterday, magically this happened. I lifted off the ground. Yes there is so much more work here to be done, but this is a huge accomplishment for me!!!

Lolasana is an arm balancing pose that is known for developing upper strength. This pose is not for the faint of heart and requires strong wrists. It is also referred to as the Pendant pose since the yogi becomes compact and swings like a pendant attached to a chain.

Do you have an impossible pose? One you’d love to do, but can’t even imagine how to get there? Has an impossible pose suddenly become possible for you? Do tell.

I’ve always believed in having fun. In living through the process of everything. And this applies to most aspects of my life (except cooking!!!) In my yoga practice I look at spaces within asanas and see where I can take a pose. Sometimes it’s a flop and at times I’m intrigued! My life pretty much mirrors my practice or vice versa.

Ekpada raja kapotasana- one of my favorite go to poses!
When you relax your jaw, your face and the hips in this pose, and surrender to the sensations of the hips releasing tension, something special happens. Time stands still, the mind calms down. There is space for emotions to surface and if you manage to stay present and just observe what happens, they’ll disperse, leaving you soft and more relaxed than before.

Eka Pada Raja Kapotasana stretches the entire lower part of the body, stimulates the abdominal organs and helps relieve the body of Sciatica. It helps open up the hips and adds more flexibility to the hip region. It is also known to relieve the body of stress and anxiety.

Mukta hasta sirsasana A, B, C (Free or liberated hands headstand) and Baddha Hasta Sirsasana A,B (Bound Hands Headstand) are variations of the traditional headstand (sirsasana). These are inversion that display strength, control and beauty. Headstands are often considered the “royalty” of asanas.

Inverted postures have many Benefits - help to eliminate fluid retention in the legs, improves breathing, circulatory system and relieves the pressure from the lumbar area.
By completely changing the natural position of the body in the sirsasana posture we manage to renew the blood circulation of the body and all the systems that form it. The brain receives more blood and oxygen, The same is true of the heart and they are forced to work at a different pace than usual.

Dear God,

You are the universal Supreme. You are the creator. I bow down to you in all humility. I am but a mere fragment of your entire being.
I use my body and my breath through my practice to realize you. I empty my mind in meditation to feel you filling me up with your presence. I have never ever questioned you and your ways. How can I? How can the creation question the creator? I have accepted everything I have been put through knowing, some where deep within, I was always meant to go through it all. You had shown me my life in all its glory before you sent me down in this body. So how can I now, in this human form, complain or question?
I can observe, as You have taught me, your narrative, your script. I am observing the pain, loss and grief humanity is facing, knowing that none of these observations compare to what we have put you through. They all just pale in comparison.
I can only sit in prayer that once we, mere mortals, have gone through what we are meant to, to change, to awaken to your Supreme Power, we must also sit in the realization that You, my dear God, are One. The human race calls you different names, have different ways of worshiping and following you, but in reality, you are nameless, formless, omnipotent and One.
Please include this, as a part of your narrative, that all religions created by man come together as One. No one is bigger and better. You have shown us how helpless and small we truly are when you unleash your fury.
Please delete hatred from your script. Please allow people to see that they are me and I am them. That we are all fragments of the same whole that eventually attaches itself to you. That You are me and I am you.
