I pretty much encourage more self compassion with every client I work with - and my wider circle of friends and family.

There are many different reasons why we may have a harsh inner critic, have high standards or be perfectionists, expect far more from ourselves than we do of others.

But change comes from action. And starting to turn towards ourselves with a softer kinder voice and attitude can create big improvements to how we feel and show up in the world.

When working with a client who has intrusive thoughts, anxiety, or OCD I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

This is because when I struggled with intrusive thoughts I found CBT just exacerbated my already very active mind tha spent a long time each day attempting to challenge or rationalise them.

Instead unhooking from thoughts and not engaging with them. There are many different ways to do this and it can be actual fun exploring them with a client.
