Such a great, clear explanation about consent! I had never heard of the wheel of consent prior to stumbling across this resource. Have you all?

We teach online and in-person workshops in the Wheel of Consent for anyone interested in taking their consent skills to the next level.

When you hide your child's diagnosis you're doing them zero favours. You're not saving them from being bullied or isolated. Trust me, as a late diagnosed autistic, those things still happen, and your child won't know why. They'll think something's wrong with them, and blame themselves.

When you're open about their diagnosis, not only will they have an answer as to why they behave the way that they do, but they'll be more accepting of themselves.

[Image description: A four panel comic of a parent asking Honeydew about their child's diagnosis. The comic is titled "Hiding The Evidence" and is made by Theresa Scovil.

Panel 1:
A parent says to Honeydew "My child got diagnosed as autistic. Should I tell them?"
Honeydew looks surprised and says "Absolutely!"
Panel 2:
The parent looks sad and says "But I'm worried that if they know they're autistic they'll know that they're different."
Panel 3:
Honeydew says "Trust me, they'll still know that they're different."
Panel 4:
Honeydew says "All you'll be doing is removing the why."
The parent looks shocked and says "Oh."]

Money management can be challenging for any couple, but mixed-neurotype partnerships face unique difficulties that require thoughtful, tailored approaches. In our experience, understanding these neurological differences is crucial for developing effective financial strategies that honor all partners' needs while building a stable economic foundation for the relationship.

I see a similar sentiment with my autistic clients-- because they are high masking, there is a real anxiety around having "tricked" people into being friends with them.

In-Home and Teletherapy Support for Emerging Adults and Neurodivergent Individuals

I’m Dr. Crystal I. Lee, a clinical psychologist in Los Angeles, California (PSY 26527). My life’s passion is to help others grow through life, achieve their goals, and become the best version of themselves. I do this by providing in-home/on-site therapy on the Westside of Los Angeles and teletherapy (i.e., sessions through secure video chat) throughout California.

I work primarily with emerging adults (18-29 year olds) who are stuck and unable to successfully transition to full-fledged adulthood. (You may have heard this population described as “failure to launch”, but I really dislike that phrase.) I use a blend of traditional talk therapy and more active coaching to help clients get unstuck and live the life they desire. I’ve found that, with this population especially, they need both modalities to really begin to move forward in life.

Many of my clients struggle with anxiety, depression, and feelings of shame, failure, and inadequacy. A large portion are also neurodivergent (aka have Autism Spectrum Disorder or ADHD). There seems to be an abundance of practitioners that work with neurodivergent children, but I’m one of the few clinicians that is skilled in working with neurodivergent adolescents and adults.

You can learn more about me and my services on my website: www.LAConciergePsychologist.com
