MYTH: Telehealth alone will fix the provider shortage.
TRUTH: Telehealth helps—but doesn’t create new providers. Prescribing psychologists do.

Be part of the solution.
Reach out to your lawmakers now and advocate for expanded prescribing authority.

Senate HHS Committee Hearing
September 18, 2024

For the first time in 24 years, TPA psychologists were able to testify to the Senate Health and Human Services Committee and be heard on the potential impact of RxP in increasing access to needed mental health care in our state.

TPA President, Dr. Hani Talebi, provided an outstanding background of RxP during his invited testimony and Dr. Cheryl Hall was able to elaborate on her experience as a conditional prescribing psychologist in NM. Dr. Carol Grothues added that a number of prescribing psychologists work in Texas today in the military and many have been trained for over 2 decades waiting for this bill to pass in order to be available to start providing services quickly.

The Texas Psychological Association has been invited to testify at the Senate HHS meeting tomorrow. TPA President Hani Talebi will be providing the current research in support of RxP. Dr. Cheryl Hall, a Texas psychologist currently licensed as a conditional prescribing psychologist in New Mexico, will also provide public testimony of her training and experience.

We appreciate the Texas Senate for addressing this critical topic and believe that RxP can and should be part of the solution.
