Meibography is a medical imaging technique used to visualize and assess the meibomian glands in the eyelids. Meibomian glands are tiny oil-producing glands located along the margins of the upper and lower eyelids. These glands play a crucial role in the health of the tear film and the prevention of dry eye disease.

Meibography typically involves the use of a specialized imaging deviceto capture high-resolution images of the meibomian glands. The infrared light penetrates the eyelid tissue and highlights the meibomian glands, making them visible in the images. This technique allows clinicians to assess the structure and function of the glands, as well as to detect any abnormalities or blockages within them.

Meibography is particularly useful in diagnosing and managing conditions such as meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), a common cause of dry eye disease. By visualizing the meibomian glands and their health, healthcare professionals can tailor treatment plans for patients with MGD, which may include warm compresses, lid hygiene, and medications to improve the function of these glands and alleviate dry eye symptoms.
