Today I’ve probably become a statistic on a cancer dashboard somewhere. 10 year survivor. Last week I went back to RUH to support a friend dealing with their own cancer diagnosis. I hadn’t been back there for a long, long time. Muscle memory made me park in ‘my’ car park which meant I had to walk past D3 - Princess Anne Wing and of course the portrait of Princess Anne who my friend’s daughter thought was a picture of her mummy many years ago....

7 years ago I was recovering physically from my final vaginectomy. My Facebook memories tell me I was outside the hospital in the sun, definitely having a fag, and resisting the urge to deadhead the hanging baskets. The psychological recovery took a long time. This week I text Jane. She is of course a very key character in this story. Since finishing all my treatment we’ve met up a few times as friends and keep in touch....
