Suzette's Holistic Health Information about holistic health and wellness trends and tried-and-trusted treatments. Welcome to Suzette's Holistic Health! Thank you for visiting!

In holistic health, the body is viewed as an interconnected system comprised of body, mind, and spirit. Instead of addressing only the symptoms of illness, holistic health treats the whole person, aiming to bring their system into balance. Treatments complement each other and can also often be used together with modern-day western medicine. Holistic health treatments are often either straight from

nature or close to their natural form. I have always been extremely interested in alternative health and enjoy creating articles and videos about wellness, covering both new trends and tried-and-trusted treatments. I am available to provide copywriting and content in this field. When you're in need of an alternative health writer, I can help your business engage readers and potential clients with interesting, informative, and persuasive content. Essential oils support emotional and physical well-being, and can be an important tool in your energy makeover toolkit.

Essential oils can be used to help beat fatigue, in two ways:
relaxing, calming essential oils to soothe your mind, melt away tension, help you unwind and sleep well at night; and
invigorating, energizing essential oils to help you feel alert and revitalized during the day.

This article will focus on the second type: invigorating, energizing essential oils to help you feel alert and revitalized during the day, and how to use them. (You can also check out my companion article on ten relaxing, calming essential oils for night-time relaxation and sound sleep.)

There are many essential oils that provide a natural energy boost. They can be used to energize and uplift you when energy levels are low. They can also stimulate alertness and increase mental capacity. In addition, they can inspire feelings of positivity, creativity, and a cheerful mood.

Essential oils can be used aromatically, where smelling them activates certain olfactory receptors in the brain, or topically, where they are applied to areas of the skin and are absorbed, as well as smelled.

To use essential oils aromatically:
- Add five to seven drops of essential oil to a spray bottle of water and spray the mist into your bedroom or onto your pillow.
- Put a few drops on a cotton ball and inhale the scent frequently.
- Rub two drops of diluted essential oil onto your palms, cup your palms over your nose, and take several deep breaths.
- Use a water-based diffuser to disperse the essential oils into the air in your room.

To use essential oils topically:
- Dilute one to three drops of essential oil with one to three drops of a carrier oil, such as coconut oil, grapeseed oil, sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, or olive oil. (For children, the amount of carrier oil should be increased to one teaspoon).
- Apply to the back of your neck, underneath your feet, or to the inside of your wrists.

The following activating, invigorating essential oils are from these different categories of essential oils: citrus, spicy, minty, coniferous, and herbaceous. They can be used as a single essential oil, but they are even more effective when used in a blend of two or more essential oils:

Citrus essential oils such as lemon, grapefruit, and orange have a sweet, fruity aroma that creates feelings of positivity and happiness, and dispels negative emotions. They increase your energy and elevate your mood:

Lemon - This invigorating essential oil dispels depression, anxiety, and indecision. On an emotional level, it promotes a deep sense of well-being, and on a physical level, it improves poor circulation and lowers high blood pressure.

Grapefruit - The fresh scent of grapefruit essential oil increases mental capacity, relieves anxiety, and encourages feelings of happiness.

Orange (sweet or wild) - Orange essential oil, either the sweet or the wild variety, is cheering, and it enlivens the mind and relieves nervous tension. Like lemon, it also normalizes blood pressure and improves circulation.

Spicy essential oils have a warm, uplifting, and invigorating aroma:

Frankincense - This calming essential oil aids concentration, meditation, and introspection. It is useful for helping you focus if you need to work for long stretches.

Cinnamon - The warm and fiery aroma of cinnamon acts as a respiratory and circulatory stimulant. It relieves mental fatigue, improves concentration, and may help to lift depression. It’s very strong, it’s best used sparingly.

Basil - It has a powerful, spicy scent that is stimulating, uplifting, and great for mental focus as it clears the mind and improves concentration. It’s an excellent nerve tonic. It also helps combat migraine headaches. It should not be used during pregnancy.

Minty essential oils are fresh and invigorating. They increase mental focus and clarity, alertness, and concentration. They also improve memory retention and recall:

Peppermint - This strong, minty essential oil is refreshing and stimulating. It helps prevent fatigue. It can also ease headaches, including some migraines.

Spearmint - Spearmint essential oil relaxes the respiratory system and the nervous system, making it easier to wind down.

Coniferous essential oils have an earthy, balsamic scent, reminiscent of being in an alpine forest:

Balsam Fir - The sweet, rich aroma of balsam fir essential oil smells like crushed fir needles and is elevating, comforting, and cheering. It also helps clear the mind.

Herbaceous essential oils are extracted from different herbs and they have a clean, crisp, green aroma:

Rosemary - The fresh, herbal aroma of rosemary essential oil has a renewing, refreshing scent that makes it perfect for boosting energy, enhancing mental clarity, and improving memory.

Enjoy experimenting with these energy-boosting essential oils until you find the perfect essential oil or blend to help you stimulate alertness, increase mental capacity, and inspire feelings of positivity.

This article will focus on the first type: relaxing, calming essential oils to help your mind relax and allow you to enjoy deep, restorative sleep, and how to use them. (You can also check out my companion article on ten invigorating, energizing essential oils for daytime alertness.)

People who experience stress and anxiety often have difficulty falling asleep or they sleep restlessly throughout the night, leaving them tired the next day. Using essential oils can help to relieve stress, which may help improve sleep amount and quality.

There is a wide array of essential oils that promotes relaxation and can help you reach a restful state, making it easier for you to fall asleep and sleep more soundly. Many people prefer to use essential oils instead of sleep medications, because essential oils are natural and don’t create the common side effects associated with many sleep medications, such dependence or daytime drowsiness.

- Add several drops to your bath water and soak in the tub ninety minutes to one hour before bedtime.

So, what are the best essential oils for relaxation and sleep? The following essential oils can be used as a single essential oil, but they are even more effective when used in a blend of two or more essential oils:

Jasmine - Jasmine essential oil is strongly sleep-promoting and it enhances restful sleep. This powerful essential oil has a beautiful floral fragrance.

Sweet marjoram - This calming essential oil relieves insomnia and has a pleasant fragrance that blends well with other essential oils, adding a spicy note. Sweet marjoram essential oil is also useful for people who work night shifts and need to sleep during the day.

Lavender - This is the most popular essential oil for sleep, as it is very calming, both for adults and children. It boosts mood and improves well-being.

Bergamot - This citrus oil helps you release anxiety and tension. It reduces heart rate and blood pressure.
Ylang ylang - From the cananga tree’s yellow, star-shaped flowers, this highly fragrant essential oil relieves stress, restores confidence, and is calming and relaxing. It can also relieve headaches.

Roman chamomile - This is the most powerful of the chamomile essential oils for relieving insomnia and anxiety. It may also reduce nightmares. Chamomile essential oil should not be used by pregnant women. Like ylang ylang essential oil, roman chamomile oil can also be used to relieve headaches. It blends very well with other essential oils.

Patchouli - Strongly grounding, patchouli essential oil relaxes the emotional center of the brain, and promotes a feeling of balance.

Neroli - This powerful essential oil supports healing of the mind, body, and spirit.

Spearmint - Spearmint essential oil relaxes the respiratory system and the nervous system, making it easier to wind down.

Rose - With its wonderful fragrance and special properties, rose essential oil promotes a sense of balance, harmony, and well-being. Rose essential oil works well on its own or blended with other essential oils. Some people find it activating and others find it calming, so it’s best to experiment to see what effect it has on you.

In a short time, your mind will associate these specific scents with falling asleep, and they will work faster to relax you. Have fun experimenting with these essential oils until you find the perfect essential oil or blend to help you unwind, release tension and anxiety, and enjoy deep, restorative sleep every night.

Hello, and welcome! You may be wondering: What exactly is holistic health? In holistic health, the body is viewed as an interconnected system comprised of body, mind, and spirit. Instead of addressing only the symptoms of illness, holistic health treats the whole person, aiming to bring their system into balance. When someone's system is in balance, they feel happy, healthy, and full of energy.

Treatments complement each other and can also often be used together with modern-day western medicine, but check with your doctor to be sure. Holistic health treatments are often either straight from nature or close to their natural form.

Holistic health is also about addressing how all aspects of a person's life affect their overall health. A holistic approach to health and wellness helps those different areas work together to achieve harmony and balance in the person's body, mind, and spirit.
