Dr. Jill Bailey is a family physician specializing in mental health and addictions who divides her time between the Addiction Medicine Program at Homewood Health Centre, teaching at Toronto Metropolitan University’s new medical school, and leading FMPE’s Physician Wellbeing module.

A passionate advocate for physician wellness, Dr. Bailey has also developed Mindfulness Skills for Busy Physicians, an FMPE continuing education program designed to fit into physicians’ demanding schedules.

Her journey highlights the importance of self-care in medicine, not only as a personal practice but as a professional necessity. As she reminds us, physician wellbeing isn’t separate from professionalism — it’s central to sustaining meaningful patient care.

Opportunity to Learn More About Home Care

Recent modules (e.g., Parkinsonism and Parkinson Disease, and Dementia: Along the Trajectory) have discussed management issues related to dementia. Have you wanted to learn more about how home care approaches in particular can improve the lives of people with dementia?

The Canadian Home Care Association’s Project ECHO is an innovative virtual model that combines expert-led presentations with interactive case-based learning to empower healthcare professionals with practical knowledge and solutions regarding home care. It offers three specialized streams of activity:

Integrated Seniors Care (current focus: co-morbidity, dementia, and cognitive impairments),
Home-Based Palliative Care (current focus: last days and hours), and Personal Care Providers (current focus: enhancing mental health skills for home-based personal care).

Transforming Family Medicine: FMPE’s Top 10 Practice Change Tips Presentation Shines at

The Family Medicine Forum (FMF) 2024 took place from November 6th to 8th, bringing together an enthusiastic group of family physicians, researchers, and healthcare professionals at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

Among the highlights was an engaging session presented by our very own Dr. Dana McKay and Dr. Haider Saeed. Their presentation, “Top 10 Practice Change Tips from Practice-Based Learning Program Modules 2023–24,” drew a large and attentive audience on Thursday, November 7. (A special mention goes to Dr. Peter Tzakas, who was integral in developing this presentation.)

In this year's Annual Report, we published a snapshot of the 2024 Active Universities with Residency, Nurse Practitioner Programs, and PHCNP Across Canada.

Each year, we work to engage with all of these programs, offering practice-based learning to discuss learning objectives with peers in a supportive, facilitated setting, individually, or a combination of the two. Our longitudinal program centers on evidence-based learning modules and focused reflection, encouraging successful practice change.

In the months ahead, we plan to announce some exciting partnerships and outreach opportunities. So, stay tuned!
