For the past week, breastfeeding has been celebrated across the world.

The focus this year is on breastfeeding support and the objective to close the gap and offer mamas the support they deserve.

Thank you to all the lactation specialists out there who work hard to serve their community of breastfeeding mamas and close the gap.

Thank you to all the mamas who stand up for and support lactation and all it’s beauty. 💕

Once you breastfeed a child, no matter for how long….. you develop a fuzzy feeling in your body when you see someone else nursing even long after you’re done.

Am I right?! ✨💕

Have you ever been told your baby has a shallow latch? And wondering what the heck that means?

It’s always helpful to understand exactly why your experiencing what your experiencing.

Firstly, symptoms of a shallow latch are pain, irritation to the ni**le, flattening of the ni**le, and low supply (a more long-term symptom).

Now.. what exactly does that mean?

It’s important to understand the palate of our mouths are HARD at the front (towards our teeth) and SOFT at the back (towards our throat).

When your ni**le doesn’t go far enough towards the back of baby’s palate, that is a shallow latch. Your ni**le against a hard surface causes the pain and trauma.

We aim for a deep latch where you see none or minimal amount of ar**la.

Babies have their own feeding patterns. Some feed at regular intervals. Others feed very irregularly. Some babies cluster feed. This means they nurse very often for a few hours and then sleep for several hours. A good milk supply is established by following your baby’s feeding cues, not scheduling feedings. Cues may include licking lips, restlessness, rooting (turning head towards breast) or mouthing hands. Crying is a late hunger cue. Typically 8 to 12 feeds or more within 24 hour is expected.

*Also big thank you to LLLC Group Mom Heather for breastfeeding a clock and her baby for this post!*
