Our vitamin D levels are probably at an all-time low with the social restrictions brought on by COVID-19.
Sunlight is required for the formation of vitamin D in our skin and vitamin D is important for calcium absorption from our diet. Calcium is the building block of strong bones and is very important for mums and growing babies. Women at particular risk of having low vitamin D include those who wear a lot of sunscreen, have darker skin or are overweight.
So, as restrictions lift, get out and get some sunshine. It will lift your spirits and your vitamin D levels!
P.S. Remember you can get too much of a good thing – so, don’t forget to slip, slop, slap, seek and slide if you are out in the sun for prolonged periods.
