Today is World Emoji Day! 🥹🤪😎

Evidently, emojis have gained a somewhat universal understanding. Enough of one that a day to celebrate them was established in 2014.

As someone with alexithymia, sometimes I use emojis to express what I cannot find words for.

The emojis in this post and used on the graphic are some of my favorite emojis. What are some of your favorite emojis? Do you use emojis more than words to describe feelings?

As a massage therapist, I frequently witness clients going through emotional release of some kind during their session. It’s something I can feel without their muscles, even if I can’t see their faces. It’s in those moments I wish I had emojis printed out on giant cards so I could express to them without words that I’m empathetic to what they’re experiencing.

Today is National ‘Give Something Away’ Day.

I don’t know if that’s a different take on the saying “one person’s trash is another person’s treasure”, or…?

There’s definitely stuff I don’t need that I could give away. But I’d like what I give away today to benefit someone. That’s why I’ve decided to give away a $25 gift certificate towards the purchase of any massage service.

This give-away only applies to residents inside my service area of Colorado Springs, Falcon, Peyton, and Monument. Only one gift certificate will be given away. Winner must be able to prove residency in my service area.

To be entered in the giveaway, simply comment with the raised hand emoji 🙋‍♀️, or ME! If you’re chosen as the recipient, I’ll respond to your comment.

This post is being made across multiple platforms and only one person will be selected from all entries received. Giveaway ends on July 16, 2025 at 7pm mountain time.

It’s National Mac & Cheese Day!

There’s a lot of really great days of celebration throughout the year. Today might be one of my favorite silly day celebrations.

Ooey-gooey goodness is being celebrated today! Who’s on board with me?

I’m a bit of a traditionalist in that I prefer elbow noodles and plain cheddar cheese sauce. Nothing else added, mixed in, or sprinkled on top. Well, maybe sprinkle some fresh shredded cheddar cheese, but that’s it!

What’s your favorite way to enjoy mac & cheese?

Is it strange to you that a massage therapist is posting about mac & cheese? Hmm. Oh well. Mac & cheese is one of my favorite foods! No, I’m not a child, just one at heart!
Another one of my passions is massage therapy. If you’d like to schedule, you can do that by going to www.Massagebook.com/biz/VineAndBranches

I forgot to post this yesterday!

Did you know that July 13th is national French fry day?
How do you like your fries?

I don’t know that I have a favorite fry shape. I like the waffle fries from Chick-fil-A. I like the crinkle cut from Culver’s. I like the hand-cut from Wendy’s. I like the curly fries from Arby’s. And although it’s been more than a minute since I’ve had them, I like the seasoned fries from Checker’s.

Top ‘em with cheese sauce, bacon, and chives?
Leave ‘em plain and dip in ketchup or another sauce?

Is it strange to you that a massage therapist is posting about French fries? Hmm. Oh well. I’m a huge fan of French fries. And of massage therapy. If you’d like to schedule, you can do that by going to www.Massagebook.com/biz/VineAndBranches

A big part of my ‘brand’ as a massage therapist is that I am trauma-informed. I recently received a message from a nurse asking what that means.

Below is a more thorough answer than what I gave her.

Trauma informed means that I understand that trauma is complex and does not manifest even remotely similar in any two people.
It means that I understand trauma manifests in psychological ways and in physiological ways.
I understand that there are psychological triggers and physiological triggers.
I understand that trauma presentation and treatment is as unique as the individual themself.
And it is my goal to find the best, most effective physiological treatment (within my scope of practice) while respecting the limitations that trauma, and its triggers, create.

Everyone has their different reasons for getting a massage; what's yours?

My favorite massage outcome is how relaxed and in-tune with my body I feel afterward.

Massage for trauma recovery does NOT need to be painful. It's quite the opposite, actually. The more relaxed a client feels after a massage, the more work that was done to clear the trauma memories from being held in their muscles.

I am currently listening to the audio recording of 'The Body Keeps the Score' by Bessel van der Kolk. It is a fascinating book with detailed information about how trauma occurs and the impact it has on one's mind and body, and subsequently, on their life experiences and relationships.

Prior to this current book, I listened to 'What Happened to You?', an interview style book with Dr. Bruce Perry and Oprah Winfrey. In that book, they discuss that pertinent question, what happened to you? They seek to change the narrative on mental health care, as well as traditional medicine, by NOT asking a patient what is wrong with them (or not approaching patient treatment from that stand point) but rather to learn how to ask the important questions that get at the root of the cause of illness; to ask "what happened to you?"
