Last year we unfortunately were not able to make what would of been Baylor’s 1st Annual ECMO reunion. This year we had to make it happen! What another awesome thing Children's Medical Center Dallas does to keep the community of little fighters & survivors connected. We got chills and our stomachs sunk driving back through the streets and parking garages of the hospital. But on arrival we found our joy. Seeing familiar faces that were in Baylor’s rooms, seeing the stories of so many survivors by just the joy on their face, & the energy of gratitude of their supporting families was just another reminder of how lucky we are. Baylor went table to table and welcomed all giveaways 😊 while also enjoying some fun small activities.
Brother Jack didn’t make a peep while watching by his side the whole time, he’s the best supporter to Baylor 🥹💙💙.

A special thank you and remembrance to the specialized ECMO staff who own a great portion of responsibility for Baylor’s survival. Calm, cool, collective, always in the room, chats in the middle of the night, and simply

With love & hearts full of joy and gratitude today,

5/27 Baylor Krew Update

Its been a while since the last update because life has been full of changes and new beginnings for us and family. Through it all Baylor is continuing to amaze everyone with his growth and development. So grateful to all his therapists who continue to make strides with him week by week. He’s so close to standing on his own and walking! Crawling everywhere and pulling up on anything and everything 🙏🏼. The medical team that routinely sees Baylor reassures us that everything they are monitoring continues to look great in our mini superhero. He even got the clearance for a trip to fly and see some family ✈️ 🙌🏼

Medications are down from what was at one point almost 20 to now only 1! Thank you Jesus. We did visit Dallas Children’s Hospital last month to consult about a potential surgery for a tongue/lip tie Baylor has that could be making eating and speech more difficult for him. However Baylor keeps finding ways to overcome and the Doctor and us feel that he is going to move forward just fine with his continued efforts and progress 💪🏼.

Often times we sit and remember even such small moments and experiences throughout our journey that were so painful to watch and be a part of. If you sit for too long and think it’s almost like your reliving it and have to snap out of it. But then we just take a quick glimpse over at Baylor and see such joy in his eyes as he has so much fun. He really is a happy Baby 😊 (of course an occasional cry session)

He loves FaceTiming his loving family who just loves, adores, and spoils the crap out of him. He loves trying to jump jump jump until his legs can’t jump anymore. He loves weird noises, being sung to, and holding your hands to stand/jump 24/7. One thing we think he will also love........ being a BIG Brother. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 or 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦?? We are so happy and blessed to be growing our family! ♥️💙

Baylor has been staying busy and having some fun the past few weeks! Family has come to visit him a lot lately and mom and dad are having fun playing with him more and more as his personality comes out!

Because his last cardiology visit checked out as normal and great, Dr. Laird cleared Baylor to start coming every two months! He is really working hard on therapy. He has speech therapy twice a week and PT & OT are each once a week. In speech, we are working on chewing food and he learned how to drink from a straw this week. As for PT and OT, our main goal is to increase his upper body strength. His legs and mind are ready for the exercises but his arms and core just need a little more time and work. His therapists said his mind is ready for walking so we may work on both crawling and walking simultaneously.

He has two teeth and more are on the way. He weighs about 22.5 lbs and loves to eat bananas, sweet potatoes, avocado and applesauce. His favorite things to do are go on walks, pet and stare at Blu 🐶 , swing outside and watch Shrek. He says mama and dada and loves making noises. Lol

I often times reflect on Baylor’s journey, and I am really amazed at how far he’s come. Although times can still be hard and I sometimes dwell on the challenges we have, I know Baylor is working so hard and doing amazing! He catches on fast and has taught us a lot about patience and perseverance! Dad works a lot but when he is home he always wants to know what new things we are working on during therapy and how he can help. They say it takes a village and that couldn’t be more true! Between family and friends support and words of encouragement and our social media family, we really are blessed! Just wanted to give an update and let you guys see our handsome little man! Thank you for sticking around!

We had a busy weekend celebrating this big boys birthday! Happy birthday to our superhero!! Baylor had his one year check up along with a cardiology appointment and he is doing great! Heart function looks good and he is gaining good weight! He went from being in the 1% in weight when we left the hospital to now the 51% 👏🏼. We are so grateful to get to celebrate this day with him. We love you Baylor Krew and are so proud of your strength and determination! ❤️💙

2/28 Baylor Krew’s Crew Update

Hello Everyone,

We know an update is long overdue but we wanted to take our time this go around with figuring out life at home. What better time to give an update than right before heart month awareness is over. There are so many kids and parents battling CHD and all the different forms it can come in. Our deepest prayers and most heart felt love goes out to all battling this; We know the pain and emotional roller coaster can be unbearable at times. We also know that right now we can be considered one of the lucky ones 💔❤️.

WOW! What a journey it has been and continues to be. Baylor has been busy with follow ups, doctors appointments, cardiology appointments, speech therapy, physical and occupational therapy. There are always challenges & worries from time to time but overall he has made substantial progress that everyone is very happy/shocked with. The amount of Medications have gone from 16 to 7. Feeds have gone up - The NG feeding tube is out as of now 🤞🏼. Sleep patterns are almost normal & Baylor Krew is talking & smiling more than ever 😊💙.

We could write a novel on our experience over the past few months, but for now we just want to enjoy the simple pleasures we once took for granted. Everyone’s support and prayers all over the world were felt. They were heard. They were needed and helped/continue to help us all get through. A thank you doesn’t suffice but THANK YOU, we love you, and we appreciate everyone and all the different kinds of support we received.

With love,

- The Hidalgo’s

P.S. The previous owners of our home heard about Baylor and bought us this swing for him to enjoy out front hanging from our tree. He is loving it as you can see.

WE ARE HOME ❤️ 81 of the last 95 days have been spent at Children’s Medical. There are still some things to monitor and we have some appointments next week, but we are so happy to be back in our home! Baylor is loving it, talking and laughing and loving on Blu!
