There is a misconception that ADHD is just about hyperactivity or distraction, but it can look different for each person.

While hyperactivity can be a symptom, it can also look like mental exhaustion, losing track of time, difficulty between transitions, lack of motivation, etc. This doesn’t mean you are lazy or lack intelligence, it’s just a different way of processing the world.

With the right tools and understanding, people with ADHD can thrive. If you find yourself struggling, use some of the tips above to help manage and to build confidence. ADHD isn’t one size fits all, everyone is different and what might work for someone else, might not work for you. So just try simple tools and see what helps you the best.

Therapy isn’t about “fixing” you; it’s about helping you discover a version of yourself that has always been there.

Coming into therapy, you might feel overwhelmed, anxious or misunderstood; but therapy gives you the tools for emotional awareness, setting boundaries and developing coping strategies.

With the help of a therapist, you can set goals and outline steps to complete these goals in a comfortable way. If you feel ready to take that first step, reach out to our office to speak with one of our therapists.

When you’re overwhelmed or upset, it can be hard to problem solve in the moment without leading to further emotional overload.

By taking a pause in these moments, you allow your nervous system to calm down to be able to work through the overwhelm.

You don’t have to process everything in the moment. Once you take a pause, analyze the situation and work to figure out a logical solution.

Are you feeling the normal game day jitters or could it be something else? Having some nerves before a big game is totally normal, but if it starts to affect your daily life, it could be more than just pre-game nerves.

Game day jitters are usually temporary and improve once the game starts, while anxiety can last longer and could even cause you to avoid or panic.

If you find that anxiety to be interfering with your life, try focusing on these below:

-Shift your internal dialogue: use “I can” phrases and focus on your effort, not the outcome
-Visualize success: calmly visualize yourself completing your routine, this helps to train your brain for success
-Focus on the process: when you fixate on the results, that’s when anxiety can creep in; control what you can right now and focus on the next movement
-Develop a pre-game routine: this allows you to control what you can and can help to lower your anxiety because it will be familiar

No matter what, this is all normal and it does not mean you are weak. With the right tools, you can work through the anxiety and get to a point of enjoying the game. Feel free to reach out to our office for a free 15 minute consultation if this resonates with you!

Sometimes the way we react to the world is not who we are, but it’s how we’ve learned to survive. The reaction is rooted in past experiences when you felt unsafe.

With healing comes recognition, so when you can recognize your behavior and when you are having a trauma response, then you will be able to correct that. Once you’re able to recognize this, you can work on pausing before reacting.

Over time, this will come easier, and you will pick up on what is causing a trauma response, and you will be able to set some boundaries.

Trauma can leave lasting marks, but healing is about reclaiming your power and rewriting your narrative. You don’t have to erase the past to move forward.

The impact of trauma won’t disappear overnight, and healing isn’t about forgetting what happened. It’s about gently facing your hurt and learning how to process it while allowing yourself to grow.

If you find yourself struggling with this, feel free to reach out to our office for a free 15-minute consultation.

Rest is a biological and emotional need; it is not a reward for productivity. You do not have to be busy to be valuable.

Many people struggle with rest because you were taught that your value is tied to productivity or slowing down feels unsafe. It’s important to remember that rest is not laziness, it is imperative for your body.

If you feel guilty about resting, here are some tips to help you learn to rest:

-Start small: take 3 minutes to breathe, stretch or sit in silence
-Build rest into your routine: schedule the rest time like you would schedule a meeting
-Give rest a purpose: remind yourself that you are resting so you can come back stronger and think more clearly

Even small breaks throughout the day can train your brain to rest. Don’t wait until you feel burnt out before you slow down.

Triggers don’t mean you are “too sensitive”, these are signals from your nervous system. This is not a weakness or overreaction, but your body’s way of saying something feels unsafe.

When you start to identify these triggers, you can begin to understand the root and be able to respond with compassion instead of shame.

Even with lots of healing work, those triggers might still come up and that’s normal. But it’s how you respond when they do come up that shows your growth and healing. Take note of when you feel triggered and try to identify a deeper feeling as to what is making you feel this way.

Once you make that connection, you can work on your reaction. If you’re having unsure how to go about this, feel free to reach out to our office for a free 15 minute consultation.
