Such an important reminder that healing after birth goes far beyond what we can see. Chiropractic and acupuncture can gently support this recalibration by helping regulate the nervous system, improve sleep, ease musculoskeletal tension from feeding and holding baby, and support hormonal balance. It’s about giving the body the support it needs to adapt, heal, and truly recover during the fourth trimester.

While medical checkups often focus on visible healing—like stitches or the uterus shrinking—the invisible side of postpartum recovery is just as intense.

Within 48 hours of birth, estrogen and progesterone levels drop more dramatically than at any other point in human biology, triggering the “baby blues” and affecting everything from mood to body temperature.

At the same time, organs that were compressed during pregnancy gradually shift back into place, which can lead to digestive changes and even sensations like phantom kicks.

Neurologically, the brain undergoes structural changes to support bonding and caregiving, increasing sensitivity to stress and emotional cues.

This period, often called the “fourth trimester,” reflects the first 12 weeks after birth when the body is in a deep state of recalibration—making it a full-body physiological transformation rather than simply a recovery from a physical event.
