Our next Acupuncturists Without Borders (AWB) trauma-relief clinic dates are July 5-7, 2019 in Brownsville, TX. We're offering a July 4th alternative, which will give volunteers an opportunity to spend the "holiday" in service of those risking their lives for freedom. This is a community service trip, family members and non-acupuncture friends are welcome to serve as support roles!
Over the course of 3 days, we will offer 4 total clinics:
(2) on the international bridge in Matamoros, MX for asylum seekers, migrants & refugees
(1) at a homeless shelter in Brownsville, TX called Good Neighbor Settlement House for local activists/volunteers experiencing secondary trauma & recently released detainees
(1) at an encampment site for the Carrizo Comecrudo tribe of Texas who are protecting sacred sites from the path of the border wall construction
Volunteers are not required to be AWB-trained, but we highly encourage folks to become AWB members, as AWB offers tremendous amounts of support and systems to make this work possible. Volunteers should be familiar and comfortable with the NADA 5-point protocol.
Texas licensed acupuncturists with proper insurance are allowed to needle in Mexico and Texas.
Non-Texas licensed acupuncturists may be able to needle in Mexico and can only offer ear seed treatment in Texas (which is a wonderful treatment option too!)
To cross into Mexico you will need a valid passport (or) your actual birth certificate + ID.
Volunteers can earn up to 10 CEUs in the field through the NCCAOM. The practitioners will have to contact the main AWB office afterwards.
The only other thing that is required is an open mind & heart to serve!
NADA certified people who are not licensed acupuncturists can participate and offer ear seed treatment.
We're in the process of confirming 2 more clinic dates before the end of the year & I'll send a flier once it's confirmed. In the meantime, here are some photos from past clinics that you are welcome to share. Faces have been blurred to protect identity.
Thank you again for your help! Please let me know if you have any other questions.
In the face of this border crisis, fear and hate, it's been truly inspiring to witness how the border communities of the Rio Grande Valley have joined together to respond in love & compassion. I hope you get to experience this in person.
Blessings,
