Nzu, or calabash chalk is an edible clay that is found mainly in Nigeria and other West African countries. The common name is calabash chalk. However, in Nigeria, most people call it nzu in Igbo. It is also called ndom in Efik/Ibibio, efua in Yoruba and eko in Bini/Edo language.

Although nzu is predominantly eaten by pregnant women as a cure for nausea. Many other people consume it for eating pleasure. This act is known as geophagia (eating of chalk, clay or soil).

COMPOSITION OF CALABASH CHALK
The major component of calabash chalk is aluminum silicate hydroxide. It also contains an excessive amount of lead. In fact, the amount of lead in food should not exceed 1 mg/kg, but the amount of lead present in calabash chalk has been reported to be between 10–50 mg/kg.

HEALTH DANGERS OF NZU

Nzu causes a range of health problems for pregnant women that include anaemia, nervous and kidney damage, and gastric ulcer, among other debilitating medical conditions.
If taken in large doses or over a long period, it can cause gastric ulcers, affect blood cells, and lead to anaemia.

According to Mayo Clinic, an online health portal, lead poisoning occurs when it builds up in the body, often over months or years.

It noted that even small amounts of lead can cause serious health problems and that children younger than six years are especially vulnerable to lead poisoning, which can severely affect mental and physical development.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE GOING INTO NURSING SCHOOL

1) Research on different Nursing schools: This entails nursing schools which are within your budget
Not all nursing schools are costly or cheap
b) Do a background check on the school because some school might have problem issuing license after graduation

2) Research on the Entrance examination cut off mark: Most school of nursing take 50% as their cut off mark but having 50% doesn't guarantee your admission....You have to score more than that to secure the admission

NB: Securing the admission doesn't make you a full student of the school... another exam awaits you 😉

3)PTS examination: This exam is taken 6months after admission into the school
Those successful proceeds to the next semester while the others are sent back home....🙄🙄 you have to burn the midnight candle

A CRYPTIC PREGNANCY, also known as a STEALTH PREGNANCY, is when a woman doesn't know she's pregnant

The actual cause of this type of pregnancy is unknown

There may be psychological factors at play. For example, someone may unconsciously convince themselves that they aren’t pregnant because the idea of being pregnant would cause too much anxiety.

A history of trauma might also cause a person to unconsciously block out the idea of pregnancy, even if symptoms are present.

Having a history of mental health conditions may contribute to the development of cryptic pregnancies. In particular, a history of depression has been linked to cryptic pregnancy.

Often, people with cryptic pregnancies don’t believe they are pregnant and are usually surrounded by others, like family and friends, who don’t believe it either.
