Self care selfie - sometimes self-care is a simple and silly as wearing your sweater as a hat because the sun came out from behind the cloud on your mini toddler walk and you needed a hat.
One of the biggest things about me is that I often have very few worries about conforming to societal standards. I was hot at a party this weekend and took my shoes off to put my feet in the grass and get in the kiddy pool to help me cool down. I felt so much more relaxed and and was enjoy the party so much more! Meanwhile most of other adults around me, felt uncomfortable for whatever reason (I know there are many and they are all legit) in taking their shoes off and splashing around.
living in the type of society that we do (capitalist, materialist, western, hierarchical etc) often self-care looks like going against the norm. The norm is for us to show up, be productive, look "respectable" and keep to ourselves while doing it all. Self-care literally means caring for ourself first, so sometimes that means not showing up. Collective care is super important to though so sometimes that means showing up, but doing it in your own way - bringing things you need to make yourself feel comfortable wearing things you need to make yourself feel safe and saying or not saying things that make sure that your needs are heard and fulfilled.
Adding in the fact fact everyone is unique and has different needs means that self-care can often make you stand out as the only one doing something, but I guarantee it that if you show up caring for yourself, other people will feel more comfortable to care for themselves too and we'll all feel a little bit safer, happier, and temperature regulated.
