my mother taught me one million things. but maybe Above All, she taught (by example) that you should not mess with your feet. a lady in sensible shoes, who believes in function before fashion, longevity and comfort before senseless hobbling.
my acupuncture practice has been full of women with back pain, neck pain, neuromas, bunions, shortened achilles tendons, hammertoes-- ALL from years of wearing the wretched heel. i've been there, i've done it, even as part of my occupation once upon a time. and it's not worth it. it's just not. let's not even talk about feministy-stuff here. let's talk about bones and muscles, fascia, pain receptors and long-term destruction of your very base.

Oh, womenfolk, as we once burned our bras, could we not torch the footwear crucifying us?
