As previously stated, my first experience as a doula the mother requested I post her story after her daughter's Christening due to cultural beliefs...

Maxine M. is a native of St. Thomas Jamaica, West Indies Caribbean Islands. Now currently a mother of two children, Maxine communicated to me she was unaware of doula services. After an indepth explanation, I accepted Maxine as a client.

My doula journey began with the expectant mother in her 7th month of pregnancy. Due to the distance between she and I, all of our communications took place via video calls and text messages. Maxine and I managed to practice breathing techniques, delivery positions (baby's father involved), remaining calm during delivery, and I explained safe delivery information to the expectant mother and father.

I was not able to be present at Maxine's Divinity Day because no one is allowed in the delivery room other than the doctor and laboring staff, and it was short notice to get authorization to have a doula present while she was in labor.

However, Maxine safely delivered a baby girl on April 16, 2025 and she named her Romelia. Maxine's postpartum doula services continue with Divine Doula til date. Maxine resently reported she and her family are doing well.

It’s that time of year again, and we are excited to announce the 17th Annual Shower 2 Empower, presented by the Black Infant Health Practice Initiative in collaboration with Broward Healthy Start Coalition and the Urban League of Broward County.

The event will take place on Friday, May 16th, from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM at the Urban League of Broward County, located at 560 Northwest 27th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311. This free event is for expecting mothers and families with babies up to one year old. Attendees will gain valuable education, access helpful resources, and get their little ones off to a healthy start. There will also be free giveaways and raffle prizes. Registration is required, and space is limited; walk-ins will be accepted on a limited basis.
