Regenesis Centre for Recovery
What is Regenesis Centre for Recovery?
Regenesis Centre for Recovery (RCR) is a start-up not-for-profit social service agency in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Our vision is to create a new long-term residential addictions recovery facility for those who identifty as women and gender non-conforming people in need; this vision stems from the highly concerning methamphetamine and opioid crisis that is currently affecting our city.
RCR will be among Winnipeg's few gender non-conforming and women-only addiction recovery facilities offering long-term transitional housing. The majority of other facilities offer thirty days or less of housing and counselling, whereas RCR will offer a six to twelve month program along with aftercare support focused on stable reintegration into the greater community. To fully assist all who come through our doors, the RCR team is comprised of two experienced addictions counsellors and Master of Occupational Therapy prospective graduate. Of the two counsellors, Leora will provide ongoing services and supports to clients after graduating from the program and Cindy will provide in-house counselling. At RCR, we plan to serve all those who identify as women or as gender non-conforming with different bodies, experiences, and beliefs. Anyone who meets this criteria will be welcome in our house.
We plan to provide safe and sober housing, a supportive community, and culturally appropriate care for all who enter our doors. Inspired by the Greek word, regenesis, meaning renewal or rebirth, we plan to stay true to our name and give women who come to RCR the fresh start that they deserve.
Who are we?
We are three politically-minded, caring women with hearts for justice and a soft spot for other women in need. With cumulatively over 20 years experience in addictions and mental health care, we have the expertise, passion, and motivation to make our dream a reality. We noticed a significant gap in treatment for those living with addictions, particularly for traditionally under-served groups such as Indigenous peoples and members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Feeling frustrated with the lack of long-term transitional housing for women with addictions in our city, we put our heads and hearts together, and the idea for RCR was born. RCR will be prioritizing intake for those who identify as members of these specific groups.
