🌿Connecting into nature breathes new life and purpose into us.

🐆Leopard Qigong is one of my morning qigong routine exercises to help me with the IBS. It massages the small and large intestines, stimulates the meridians and lets the qi flow freely into the organs getting me ready for the day!

Warming the Organs

If the kidneys, liver, spleen, stomach and intestines are cold, the body has to burn energy to warm them up. Cold drinks, poor circulation, winds, air conditioning, and low vitality can cause the organs to be less than then optimal body temperature.

Breathing techniques, self massage, and meditation, when done regularly, can keep the organs warm. Increased awareness leads to better circulation and the knowledge that the organs are cold or functioning poorly. Energy follows intention, or as Taoists say “chi follows Yi (intention)”.

One technique for increasing energy, warmth, and vitality is Bellows Breathing, a method of deep breathing, through the nose, that expands the abdomen in all directions 20-30 times). Another technique is to massage the navel area clockwise and counter wise to loosen the intestines (30-40 times). Rest by placing the hands at the navel, feeling warmth grow, and even visualize a low fire, like a cooking fire, burning behind the navel.

We can finish the practice of warming the organs by self massaging the lower back. With the back of the hands, we can warm the lower back, kidney area, and sacrum until they’re all warm (30-60 times). Our energy knows where to go to nourish the body. We can consciously conserve our energy and build more through predictable practices like the ones mentioned here.

Energy in the Tan Tien

If there is not energy in the lower abdomen, there is no energy to work with in healing meditations or movements. The three-dimensional area behind the navel is known as the “tan tien” or field of elixir. When the tan tien is full of energy, there is healing elixir to spread throughout the body.

Exercises like belly breathing, bellows breathing, ocean breathing, and full body breathing fill the lower tan tien with energy. Belly breathing can be done sitting or laying down, with the hands on the navel. Breathe deeply to make the hand rise up and down with the breath. Bellows breathing is equally as deep, but it is a little faster. Think of pumping the bellows of a blacksmith to add oxygen into a growing fire.

Ocean breathing is a standing practice where the hands lift out to the sides with an inhale. Then, upon the exhale, the hands sink back down to the hips. It is similar to standing in waist-deep ocean water and as a wave rolls through, the arms float out to the sides and the energy in the belly expands. Full body breathing can be practices by guiding the breath through the organs with the hands. As the hands rest on each organ in the abdomen, we breathe deeply for several breaths.

In summary, keep the fire burning in your belly. Connect your tan tien with the energy of nature, particularly the earth itself. Tune into the center of your being, behind the navel, throughout the day. The awareness in the belly will cause energy to grow there. Then, you’ll have a surplus of energy to move in the meridians and organs of the body.

🐍The Tale of the White Snake

For 1700 years, White Snake has been assiduously studying a sacred text in her search for Enlightenment. But the scroll she is studying is not Buddhist but the Tao Te Ching, “The Book of the Way of Virtue,” the basic text of Taoism. Its first lines state:

🌱The Way that can be told of is not an unvarying way;
🌱The names that can be named are not unvarying names.
🌱It was from the Nameless that Heaven and Earth sprang;
🌱The named is but the mother that rears the ten thousand creatures, each after its kind

One lives in harmony with the Dao through effortless action, properly utilizing the Three Treasures: physical energy, emotional energy and spiritual energy. Taoism is directly opposed to the rigid rituals and social order of Confucianism — as is the Tale of the White Snake.

Wisdom🌿

Posted • “No sorrow can befall those who never try to possess people and things as their own.”
Dhammapada (c. 3rd century BCE)
The Dhammapada, which is a collection of verses thought to be spoken by the Buddha, explains that all human suffering, distress, turmoil, sorrow, melancholy and dissatisfaction, arise from a desire to own what is not ours - and nothing is ours.
For the purpose of a healthy, functioning society, we label things as his, hers, mine and yours. Yet it is because of this misuse of language, that we actually believe things really belong to us. In Eastern philosophy, nothing, including our physical bodies, belong to us. Everything that seems to be in our possession, is so temporarily.
As we are not all enlightened, we find it hard to live by this and other such principles. However, merely understanding that this is the case, helps to reduce the imbalances caused by inaccurate assumptions, such as the illusion of possession.

😮‍💨Deep Breathing

Taoist breathing focuses on kidney breathing and lower/upper back breathing. The breath is done with both nostrils, and there is no breathing into the front of the chest.

The conscious practice of learning how to breathe in a circulated manner with a relaxed body has vital, life-changing effects on our physical, mental and spiritual health.

❔What is Qi ❔

Posted
Do you ever notice how some exude positive✨💫 energy that feels like a magnet, while others exude energy that is down right so negative☹️ that you want to get away from?

We all have energy (Qi), 💫and how we manage and take care of our own energy, ✨determines what type vibration we put out, which in turn determines how the outside world responds to us.

According to many eastern philosophies and TCM, keeping a healthy and balanced Qi 💫Flow is essential to living a healthy life.

Achieving optimal health and wellness is possible at any age by regulating your Qi!😊💫✨

🧘🏿‍♀️Why guarding your Gate of Life is so important 🧘🏿

Ming Men— Ming (命) means “life, fate” and Men (門) means “gate, door”. Ming Men is translated as Gate of Life, Gate of Destiny, Gate of Vitality or even Gate of Power.

This gate provides us with the internal fire from where all substances and functions develop from and depend on. This fire supplies us the warmth to fuel that of which keeps us alive. This original fire's energy stems from our genes, through a healthy conception and birth. Although the Kidneys are associated with water, they are the source of this fire we refer to as Ming Men. Chinese texts say that the relations between Kidneys and Ming Men are those of "the mutual assistance of Water and Fire."

After we are born, we begin to draw upon this energy. We can supplement the fire by cultivating energy through a healthy lifestyle and from the foods and drinks we consume.

This fire plays a major role in all the organ systems, in our immunity, our spirit, our mind-body connection and even our cognitive function. Ming Men is located on the inside of the spine in front of the second and third lumbar vertebrae. It lies in the center of the body right between the two Kidneys— but this concept is much more important than a location, it is more of a collective region that connects to the entire body.

If you have a strong Gate of Life, you will have good health and longevity. For example, your digestion will work well because there will be ample fire to "cook" or digest the food you eat and transport it to where it needs to go.

📖 At the higher states of energy continuation one will find his movements now are governed by the movement of his internal energy. This is the Qi of energy, not breath, to which I refer.

There are essentially three basic ingredients for higher accomplishment:

🔸Mental tranquillity and physical relaxation

🔸Application of the integrated supple strength of the whole body

🔸Continuity of the internal energy without interruption from movement to movement and moment to moment throughout the entire form.

S P R I N G 🐒Monkey picks fruit 🍌

In Chinese medicine, the wood element is associated with spring and the liver and in qigong it’s associated with the monkey.

In the spring the liver qi can get stagnated as we get excited about getting out there and doing many things which can leave us irritated and frustrated. These emotions link to the liver. Spring it’s a good time to detox liver which helps to feel better mentally and physically!

~The power of the Heart ♥️ and Hands 🤲🏼 ~

Posted •

There is a Taoist practice for connecting the flow of energy from the heart to the hands. This practice is primarily taught to hands-on and energy healers. The practice focuses on the heart and pericardium meridians in the hands (points heart-8 and pericardium-8, as well as large intestine-4). We also massage the areas between the bones on the back of the hand and the lines of the palm. Further, we squeeze each finger to reduce stress, increase circulation of energy and blood, and activate the healing energy of the hands.

Even though this practice is taught in a hand-healing course (Chi Nei Tsang: abdominal massage), don’t many of us use our hands in our work? We use phones, computers, tools, and even shake hands with those we help and help us. So, opening the connection between the heart and the hands is a good practice for all of us. In addition to the heart-hands connection, we also want to open the heart and earth connection.
