Yoga Warrior pose 2 from the 🔆 Salutations. Another favourite🧡

This yoga asana it’s from the first ones I learned in the YTT in India. The peaceful warrior story and spirit from the Bhagavad Gita resonated within me immediately and made the warrior’s gaze more meaningful. All just by incorporating the warrior’s strength and inner peace.

I like to go and stay in this pose for at least a minute when I am overthinking. It helps me stay focused on my breathing while facing the challenging thoughts one after the other like a warrior 👩🏻‍🎤

In Qigong we have the bow stance 3rd picture. You can see the position of the legs is very similar to the warrior asana. This qigong stance is from the Leopard 🐆 qigong flow.

Hello 👋🏽I am Stella and I am Qigong and Yoga instructor. When I was a little girl I was doing gymnastics and the first picture is one of my favourite poses. This isn’t a yoga pose, I am just doing it to test my flexibility (now that I am in my 40s) and have some fun.

My journey as a yoga teacher started in 2012 in India where I did my first yoga teacher training. As a gymnast at a young age yoga was a natural choice 🧘‍♂️🤸‍♀️

My QiGong journey started 5 years ago and I have been teaching QiGong and blending it in with some yoga.

I will be posting here some of my favourite yoga poses from time to time.

Today I am posting about the Headstand (3rd picture). I personally like to do it when I am stressed as it helps me calm. It activates the pituitary and pineal gland and stimulates the lymphatic system. There are a lot more benefits but these are the reasons I like to do it 🧡

If you like to try it please make sure you do it with-an experienced yoga teacher.

High Blood Pressure 🩸 and Chinese Medicine 🪡🌿🍵

High Blood Pressure and Chinese Medicine

High blood pressure results from inflammation of the inner walls of arteries. Once the artery is inflamed, the endothelial lining becomes swollen and narrows the artery. Blood cannot pass through as easily and the heart has work harder to push blood through. This causes high blood pressure.

A lifestyle of smoking, too much alcohol, lack of sleep, stress, working long hours, emotional stress, being inside for a long time, lack of exercise, a poor diet, and a reversed circadian rhythm can all cause high blood pressure. Fatty, greasy, deep fried and processed foods can hurt our bodies over time. The stress accumulates in our internal organs, tissues, and arteries.

Prescription drugs can treat high blood pressure and help people begin the return to a healthy condition. This medicine can lower the blood pressure when it is dangerously high. It can save a person’s life in the short term. But medication should not be a long-term solution. In the medium term, a taoist healer will prescribe acupuncture or herbs for high blood pressure to reduce the stress hormone (which can cause the arteries to contract). In the long-term, we need to remove the toxins from the body and adhere to a healthy lifestyle.

A healthy lifestyle includes the opposite of activities listed as unhealthy in the second paragraph. To be healthier, make it a point to smoke less, drink less, work less, walk/exercise more, eat healthier, and sleep with natural cycles of day and night. Don’t get overwhelmed, just focus on making small changes at first. 10% less smoking and drinking. 10% more sleep. Spend 10% less and work 10% less.

The Tao is close, but everyone looks far away. Health is simple, but everyone seeks complexity.

🌿Connecting into nature breathes new life and purpose into us.

🐆Leopard Qigong is one of my morning qigong routine exercises to help me with the IBS. It massages the small and large intestines, stimulates the meridians and lets the qi flow freely into the organs getting me ready for the day!

Warming the Organs

If the kidneys, liver, spleen, stomach and intestines are cold, the body has to burn energy to warm them up. Cold drinks, poor circulation, winds, air conditioning, and low vitality can cause the organs to be less than then optimal body temperature.

Breathing techniques, self massage, and meditation, when done regularly, can keep the organs warm. Increased awareness leads to better circulation and the knowledge that the organs are cold or functioning poorly. Energy follows intention, or as Taoists say “chi follows Yi (intention)”.

One technique for increasing energy, warmth, and vitality is Bellows Breathing, a method of deep breathing, through the nose, that expands the abdomen in all directions 20-30 times). Another technique is to massage the navel area clockwise and counter wise to loosen the intestines (30-40 times). Rest by placing the hands at the navel, feeling warmth grow, and even visualize a low fire, like a cooking fire, burning behind the navel.

We can finish the practice of warming the organs by self massaging the lower back. With the back of the hands, we can warm the lower back, kidney area, and sacrum until they’re all warm (30-60 times). Our energy knows where to go to nourish the body. We can consciously conserve our energy and build more through predictable practices like the ones mentioned here.

Energy in the Tan Tien

If there is not energy in the lower abdomen, there is no energy to work with in healing meditations or movements. The three-dimensional area behind the navel is known as the “tan tien” or field of elixir. When the tan tien is full of energy, there is healing elixir to spread throughout the body.

Exercises like belly breathing, bellows breathing, ocean breathing, and full body breathing fill the lower tan tien with energy. Belly breathing can be done sitting or laying down, with the hands on the navel. Breathe deeply to make the hand rise up and down with the breath. Bellows breathing is equally as deep, but it is a little faster. Think of pumping the bellows of a blacksmith to add oxygen into a growing fire.

Ocean breathing is a standing practice where the hands lift out to the sides with an inhale. Then, upon the exhale, the hands sink back down to the hips. It is similar to standing in waist-deep ocean water and as a wave rolls through, the arms float out to the sides and the energy in the belly expands. Full body breathing can be practices by guiding the breath through the organs with the hands. As the hands rest on each organ in the abdomen, we breathe deeply for several breaths.

In summary, keep the fire burning in your belly. Connect your tan tien with the energy of nature, particularly the earth itself. Tune into the center of your being, behind the navel, throughout the day. The awareness in the belly will cause energy to grow there. Then, you’ll have a surplus of energy to move in the meridians and organs of the body.

Which Qigong forms to start with? 💫

This is a common question we get when people are choosing among our 3 systems of forms: 5 Element Qigong, 5 Animal Qigong and 8 Trigram Qigong.

All these forms have the unique style and advantages of each, and the depth that even an advanced practitioner can still be challenged while allowing the complete beginner to go deep and as a beginner you can start with any form depending on what you are looking for.

🍃 8 Trigram Qigong

Continuously flowing movements. They are soft and the most gentle yet internal of all forms so that anyone at any level can do them. The movements give a gentle massage to the internal organs and focus on creating a supple spine. This Qigong system is the best for people with back and neck pain or back mobility issues and those who just want to start with a more gentle flowing Qigong.

🍃 5 Element Qigong

This Qigong is a staccato Qigong done in place with 5 different stances that are related to the 5 Elements. Each Qigong form focuses on one of the 5 specific organ systems and related meridians. It’s perfect for people who want a deep satisfying squeeze, want to sweat and feel like they got a deep whole body mind workout. People who want a mix of deep movement coupled with meditation. People who like deep stances and deep stretching while strengthening at the same time.

🍃 5 Animal Qigong

This Qigong system is from Hua Tuo who is the creator of Medical Qigong. It is the oldest known and first Medical Qigong system ever created. It is based on 5 different animal movements that work on the meridians, organs and bones. It was designed so that you move the way the element does to benefit that organ system. It is the most dynamic of all 3 Qigong systems and has the most variety of movements. It offers a whole body-mind-spirit workout improving the body's strength, balance, stability, mobility and promoting a powerful energy flow.

So choose what sounds best to you and better explore them all 🤩
