Meet the daisy family!
The Asteraceae family gives us some of the gentlest, most comforting essential oils—beautiful allies for soothing the body, heart, and mind. They include blue oils known for speeding up wound healing and easing pain (German chamomile, blue tansy, and yarrow), oils that support digestion (Roman chamomile, tarragon), oils that can soothe anxiety and stress (most of the Asteraceae!), and more.
The Asteraceae family includes:
Blue Tansy (Tanacetum annuum)
Cape Chamomile (Eriocephalus punctulatus)
Davana (Artemisia pallens)
German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita)
Helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum)
Inula (Inula graveolens)
Roman Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile)
Tarragon (Artemisia dracunculus)
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium)
This family reminds us that nature often wraps her strongest remedies in the softest touch.
Safety Notes: Most Asteraceae oils are considered gentle and carry few safety concerns. One exception is tarragon oil: because of its naturally high methyl chavicol content, it should be used only for short periods of acute need, well diluted at 1% in topical blends (about 5–6 drops per 1 oz/30 ml of carrier oil).
Davana should also only be used at 1%, as it's rich in ketones that may irritate skin.

We want to note that while Inula graveolens is frequently used in aromatherapy, Inula helenium, also known as Elecampane (distilled from the root), is a severe dermal sensitizer and should not be used.
